Orienteering race 1:04:02 [4] 8.4 km (7:37 / km) +185m 6:52 / km

NGOC Galloppen at Danby Lodge.

Wanted to get to Cardiff to spectate at the Cross Country, so went for the earliest possible start and just did the Blue.

Tired, slow and lumbering - three races in 21 hrs probably too much for the body these days. Enjoyed the outing tho'. Wood in nice condition despite the wild boar making it a bit slower. Planning making maximum use of the nicest bits on our course.

Got to Cardiff in time to see the end of Megan and Cecilie's race and all of Kris's. Good to see them all going really well.

Run 25:00 [3] 3.0 km (8:20 / km)

Warm up and warm down. To/ from start. In truth no where near enough warm up, or high enough intensity. I am sure my slow starts these days are explained by this. Must rectify, when it come to the big races.
2 PM

Fell Race race 37:58 [4] 6.3 km (6:02 / km) +300m 4:52 / km

Craig Yr Allt race.

Slow to start, poor choice of shoe for first couple of descents. But felt Ok on the long final climb, picking off quite a lot of people. Had left it too late to catch up Aggers tho'.
6 PM

Orienteering race 59:50 [3] 5.6 km (10:41 / km) +240m 8:48 / km

Western Night League on Dolebury Warren on the Mendips. Have run here many times, but never Orienteered so was keen to make the trip. Enjoyed it and would go again.

Annoyingly, apparently the fences were not meant to be crossed. Not marked in the conventional way on the map, and no warning given at the start . So didn't find out until Alice pointed it out after the race - in the final details apparently. I really don't mean to cheat, or flout access conditions - and don't like having done so. So , please, mark up the map properly ! Or if not - e.g. so many purple lines disrupting clarity to too great an extent, at least make sure everyone is told at the start . Just burying it in final details is not enough!
I was certainly not the only one.

A shame, because in other ways map marking up was exemplary for a WNL - Codes and point score shown on the map.

Note
(rest day)

Over to the Gower to check out the accomodation for next weeks training camp. Then a lovely walk with Alice, around Oxwich head. Almost unaccounatbly a bit of the coast path we had never visited. Actually not really unaccountable - we have a long run we do here abouts at OMM training time - Cefn Bryn , Llanmadoc, Rhossil, coast and back. We have always been too knackered at the end - 3-4 hrs in - and cut out the headland. Anyway, glorious walk - fantastic scenery and stunning weather. May be next time we do that run, we should go the other way round !

Mumbles hill. 6 * 2:08 ish. Progress ? Or maybe just slightly less wind than the last couple of weeks.

Orienteering race 1:08:35 [4] 8.5 km (8:04 / km) +95m 7:38 / km

Army Race at Mytchett.

Navigation OK. In common with most I spoke to, lost a minute or so in circle on 4 whilst I worked out that there wasn't actually a junction between the small and big gully ( trench), and I had to descend a little to pick up the smaller one.
