Training Log Archive: Mark Two

Blue at HH race on Mardley Heath near Welwyn Garden City - where Alice and I were visiting my Sister. A fun little area.

With Charles, Alice and other chums from Cold Ashton. Cold frosty morning and ankle not great on frozen, hoof pocked pasture land.

Army race at Ash Ranges. Brown.

Lost a little going thru the forest to no 1 - rougher than I was expecting. More significantly left the control in not quite the right direction and hit the path a lot lower than necessary. Lost most time - 100s - on no 5. Pretty sure it was not in right place. - Found a blue tape in what I thought was correct, and splits suggest others thought wrong as well.

Had a bit of a battle with Axel for much of the course - started 2 mins after me - first saw him on way to no 8. Pleased to stay ahead for most of the race. Threw away my Emit birck as I punched 21. Axel helped me find it, which distrupted concentration for both of us and we prompty missed 22 - not helped by Ben going past us and also cocking it up.

NGOC New Years day score event at Brierley. My first run run as an M60.

Not a particulalry auspicious start to the year results wise - but that was largely down to my inability to find one of the "roving controls" in some low viz walk. Actually attempted to find it twice during my run as my route passed close both times. Found her coat on the edge of the square marked on the map, just couldn't find her - losing a lot of time and not getting the significant number of points ( about 5 X most of teh other controls).

Still, the forest was lovely, there was sun after days of gloom, and most of the rest of my orienteering was OK.

Twmbarlwm via the Solar farm, Henllys ridge and Cwmcarn forest drive with Alice. Everywhere very quiet, expected to see a few more walkers etc. Back down the lane.
