Orienteering 1:58:16 [3] 11.94 km (9:54 / km) +410m 8:27 / km

Checking controls on Mynydd Y Garn. Pleased to say that it looks like Ben understands the importance of good control placement in these open moorland areas - not beacons and not stuck right in the bottom of holes.

No shorts and a bit mizzly by the end. Looking forward to Spain tomorrow......

Run 47:09 [3] 7.34 km (6:25 / km) +162m 5:47 / km

Met Alice straight from her work for a valentines date in the sun. Up to Mynydd y Gaer. Along the ridgeway as far as the ruined church whose name escapes me, then back with a loop at the end. Lovely sunny late afternoon, but getting pretty chilly by the end.

Orienteering race 1:15:41 [4] 10.4 km (7:17 / km) +252m 6:29 / km

Army race at Long Valley SW. Not the best course I have run there. I always find it odd when they make us go to the same control twice, and here they did in two places. I don't really see the benefit. Also more rough brambly / gorsey bits than i recall.

Own performance not brilliant - getting stuck stupidly behind a 10ft high barbed wire topped fence costing me 4 mins or so and another minute lost in some gorse - quite bloodied when I got out. Shocked a local dog walker I think, who asked me whether I was enjoying myself..... And of course in the main I was. Weather almost felt like spring

Run 57:09 [3] 8.02 km (7:08 / km) +386m 5:45 / km

Needed to be at home to hand over some kit for the next SWOC event, so had to give the MDC run a miss. Twmbarlwm with Alice instead.

Run 1:13:49 [3] 11.44 km (6:27 / km) +245m 5:50 / km

Monday night Bristol run. No Keith this week - recovering from the Open 5. So we thought we would start from where we used to meet on Church Rd in Leigh Woods. Bit of confusion as Adam got the meeting spot wrong, so Ben waited for him whilst the rest of us - other Ben, Megan, me and Duncan - newbie of Devon - went on.

More confusion as I missed the shortest route thru 50 Acre wood, and Ben and Adam managed to go past us without us realising. But eventually we all met up, and continued around the old haunts of the Tanpit and Grace's woods. Still as muddy as hell.

Orienteering 48:41 [3] 4.68 km (10:24 / km) +132m 9:07 / km

Putting out controls on Merthyr Mawr. Managed to put out a wrong box at one point and had to back track Peeing down with rain and 3 degrees when we left the village hall, but had stopped by the time we started.
12 PM

Orienteering 20:00 [3] 2.0 km (10:00 / km) +30m 9:18 / km

Picking up tapes from the Control pick exercise we had put out near the start.
2 PM

Orienteering 26:31 [2] 2.67 km (9:56 / km) +63m 8:53 / km

Control collecting

Note

An enjoyable and worthwhile weekend -

A couple of squally showers both days, but short lived.

Few juniors, but enough to make worthwhile, and definite signs of progess from all the ones I saw, and most importantly seeming to enjoy themselves.

A new village hall for us , which worked well - shower and Ok cooking facilities. 2 big rooms.
