Saturday Mar 9 #

9 AM

Orienteering 1:00:00 [2] 3.0 km (20:00 / km)

Putting out mini kites on Beaudesert for what had originally been planned as a joint WJS & WMJS training day, but ended up with only one Welshie and a duel national at that.

Shocked to see a big area of newly felled light green - too young to be harvested - presumably disease management. Also how rough and brambly other bits were. Testament I guess to how well the JK planners kept us in the best bits and/or explanation as to why there was quite a bit of path running there.
12 PM

Orienteering 30:00 [3] 2.8 km (10:43 / km) +50m 9:50 / km

Easy with Alice around the golf course. Had intended to come back via the Canal, but had forgotten that they have closed to the tow path for a few weeks while they do some work.

Orienteering race 58:42 [4] 8.43 km (6:58 / km) +100m 6:34 / km

POM Day 4 - Long Race at Quaios

A reprise of all the various terrain types from the previous days . Started well again - actually leading race at 5 according to winsplits - but blew 80s at 7 - a little bit of oxygen debt after climbing a short hill and didn't properly read vegetation at top of ridge and turned wiong way . Fortunately had sense to relocate quite quickly on a big clearing beyond the control . Then getting progresively more tired - especially in the thicker heathery bits near the end. A couple of bad direction errors leaving both 16 and 17 resulting in fairly significnat bananas - a minute each. So a bit dissapointing really . Should and could have done better.

But overall not too disheartened. A really enjoyable set of races. Things to work on, but I am not too far off where I want to be.

Monday Mar 4 #

9 AM

Orienteering 25:00 [3] 2.5 km (10:00 / km)

Warm up map available - WRE - so availed myself of the opportunity and found a few controls.
10 AM

Orienteering race 33:33 [4] 4.88 km (6:52 / km) +55m 6:30 / km

POM Day 3 - another middle race.

Early start, and first half in much greener terrain, so concentrated on trying to keep it clean. A couple of 15s wobbles, but basically succeeded and rewarded with my best result of the competition - 3rd.

Sunday Mar 3 #

12 PM

Run 20:00 [3] 2.0 km (10:00 / km)

Warm up jog to start
1 PM

Orienteering race 31:39 [4] 4.93 km (6:25 / km) +55m 6:05 / km

POM Day 2 - Middle at Quiaios.

A much better performance - Clean thru the first 9 controls - very fast and open - set map, look up and run. A bit of a glitch on transition to more bushy and vaguer terrain at 10 - perhaps 50s - but that was probably the warning I needed to be much more carefull with my direction for the last 8 controls.
