warm up
11 AM

Orienteering race 28:30 [4] 5.0 km (5:42 / km) +100m 5:11 / km

JK Relay at Minley.

2nd leg on M165. Great first leg from Phil handing over just behind Nigel Bunn and Tim Tett nowhere in sight. Leaving me to have a bit of a battle with julian Birkinshaw. Different gaflle at start - and I slightly missed no 1 - probably only 10s . Caught him by no 4 tho' and I think same after that. He missed at the end of the longish leg to 9, and i was able to get a little bit of a gap which I maintained untill the finish.

Clive then carefully checking that his Emit tag flashed at each control finishing off a pleasing victory.

Warm Up
2 PM

Orienteering race 1:04:21 [4] 10.0 km (6:26 / km) +247m 5:44 / km

JK Long at Cold Ash.

Will need to see routes taken by others on Route Gadget, before I can be sure about my route choices. But in terms of finding teh controls, the only error was no 12 where I was slight off to the right and got in the wrong veg corner before correcting - 25s .

Finished 2nd again to Donald. But this time only 78s. Probably helped by getting into a bit of a battle with Kevin Harding after the 2nd road crossing.

Second overall too - so reasonably pleased. Work to do - before the British and WMOC - but it doesn't feel impossible.

Warm Up
2 PM

Orienteering race 36:12 [4] 5.26 km (6:53 / km) +117m 6:12 / km

JK Middle at Windmill hill.

Bit of a mistake on no 1 - too far left, when staright down the re-entrant would have been better - 25s.

Wrong route on 6 - taking path to right and having to clamber up the bank , when there was an eaier route accross some hardstanding to the left. -15s

Banana on 17 - 20s

Then not understanding the landform on 19 - not helped by circle not being cut / obscuring the spur I was stood on - perhaps another 15s

Finished 2nd, a good 2 mins down on Donald Petrie - so even without those small errors, I would have been well beaten. Donald clearly running faster than me - as indeed was Keith Tonkin. Keith however made a couple of much more significant mistakes.

warm up.
3 PM

Orienteering race 14:44 [4] 2.81 km (5:15 / km)

Jk sprint. Around North camp barracks in Aldershot.

Started ok. But some significant wobbles on a number of the controls. Biggest time loss being on 14, where I missed the path down thru the wood. Only when I finished did I remember that I had a 1:3,000 map. Which probably helps explain why everything seemed to be happening so much more quickly than I was expecting. That and the lack of any sprint o training. Tbh - that was probably the most significant factor.

4th so not too bad , but a cleaner run could have got me medal.

Short and sweet around the golf course and back via the canal.

MDC run from Cwmaman. Basically a big loop up thru the forestry towards st Gwynno. Large parts felled but also some lovely looking wood - tho I didn't follow Marcus off piste. With things a bit gloomy and my ankle not taped I didn't want to risk it so close to JK. Still worth a bit more of an explore sometime.

Proper MDC pub up a single track lane away from civilization
