Ride US 1:22:00 [3]
shoes: 7005SL

Had intended a longer ride but ended up with an extended bike tweaking/adjusting session followed by a shakedown ride around local roads. Felt like a 10yr old playing out on my bike - sprints to lamposts, racing round a small loop in town, hard up the WIlton lane climb a few times etc etc. Fun Did not get drenched for once, and bike adjustment now A1.

Bousdale, Sleddale, Westworth; heavy legs on climbs.
Closest ever views of churring Nightjar. The felling which has ruined the woods for orienteering for a while has at least given us this wonderful habitat.

Bummer. Solid half hour riding, feeling good and looking forward to lots of hills before a rear wheel spoke twanged and broke. I'd like to think it was caused by the prodigious power I was putting down climbing Birk Brow but more likely it was due to pre-existing damage from an earlier bent mech hanger incident.

Looking on the bright side at least it didn't happen halfway up Rosedale Chimney Bank, my intended route. I now know my average HR and pace for pushing a bike in stocking feet (better than ruined cleats). I also know that walking on pavements in socks for 8km is nowhere near as painful as I'd thought - barefoot next perhaps.

I replaced the spoke in quick time only for it to piss down all afternoon, and for me to realise how much work I was not going to get done as well as travelling tomorrow. And I have printed out some open O maps of Copenhagen.

As I was trudging home pushing my bike and carrying my shoes, three separate solo riders came past without even checking if they could help. They couldn't but that's not the point. The guy who did stop on his hybrid bike was surely actually an MTBer or an orienteer - we always stop for the afflicted. A smart girl in a smart mini did stop but we worked out that I'd have to chop the bike up to fit it in her car.

Ride US 1:55:00 [3]
shoes: 7005SL

Back from Darlo via Croft and all the back lanes of the flatlands.
Starting to get more of a feel for heart rate vs perceived effort on a bike, which is much different to running. Little Owl in usual place.

Stopped briefly on A19 bridge to spectate on National 25mile TT champs. Brad et al. make TTs look glamorous on the telly. The UK reality seems to be sharing a flat, straight dual carriageway with 70mph Saturday afternoon traffic. That takes a special kind of person with a special kind of dedication. Hats off to Mrs Poole then.

Orienteering 30:00 [3]
shoes: Zoom Streak3 Red

n/c run on C course in BC urban, as a sprint.

S & C 15:00 [3]

Ride US 38:00 [3]
shoes: Turbo

Difficult to know if the sweaty garage ended up being dryer than the British 'summer' outside.
5 by 3mins (2mins) included. Starting to calibrate my riding HR against my running one. It looks like my technique is not yet good enough to allow HR to rise as high on the bike, so that gives some hope of getting faster.

Orienteering 40:00 [3]
shoes: Zoom Streak3 Red

Guildford uni sprint. High quality area and planning. Felt OK at last. Solid first race but scrappy second, missing the long route choice. Just sneaked a win ( I think).
That's enough orienteering for while. Last few events have been so good ; can't see anything close to ithem before Welsh.
