Orienteering 1:35:00 [3]
shoes: Blue Swoops 3

Somewhere in Dalby.

I'm a bit mystified looking at some splits. On a couple of legs where I thought I had run hard, chosen a sensible route and run straight to the control, I was slower than people whom I was otherwise quicker than -eg legs 3,6,16. Perhaps some other routes happened to be more runnable?

GPS is really useful for once, and makes me feel a bit better.
- Shows that I probably ran ( en route to the depression that was in the middle of the circle) around the edge of the depression where #8 was placed without looking in it, not expecting it to be there.
- had a good split to #11, or where 11 should have been.
- #13 is actually a little east of the position you reach when attacking from the obvious point south of the control. I think my bearing was good enough but just didn't scan around enough at the right distance.

Orienteering 1:30:00 [3]
ahr:156 shoes: 'Red' Jalas Blacks

EPOC Stoodley - 60:09. Beautiful day in t'Pennines. Solid enough run. Had a bad patch trying to get away from a group (banana (probs map issue as many other proper orienteers had to jink left aswell), overshoot, banana in 3 consecutive legs), but recovered OK. 10% down on TT.

Saturday Oct 23, 2010 #

Run 57:00 [3]

Monday Oct 18, 2010 #

Run 1:00:00 [3]

Ride US 2:15:00 [3]
shoes: P7 with Road Tyres

Woke up with strong headache for some reason, so bailed on the fell race. Something is (or has been?) up with me over the last few days.

Road ride via very small roads to Boulby and back along the coast. Hilly, and tried hard on the uphills, steady on the rest. Only 50km as proof of the hillyness!

Saturday Oct 16, 2010 #

Run 45:00 [3]
shoes: Pegasus Grey/Red

Albert parkrun. 1 lap warmup; 19:30, most of lap warm down.
HRM didn't start until 2nd full lap. IT showed that I slowed down on the downhill part! Huh.

Orienteering 45:00 [3]
shoes: Blue Swoops 3

Score event at Bishop Auckland Park. Forgot any start routine, including forgetting to put in a contact lens. Luckily, most controls were not hard to find. Just tried to concentrate on flow and exit route- this worked fine. Missed a couple of controls for 30seconds or so.
Pleasant area, good map.Would be great for a sprint event, but just too small for a 60 minute score (I did 31m, Duncan 25m).
4 PM

Ride US 1:01:00 [3]
shoes: Whyte Full Sus

Steady loop of woods, spinning the legs and enjoying autumn.

Saturday Oct 9, 2010 #

Run 40:00 [3]
shoes: Pegasus Grey/Red

Albert Parkrun: good enough warm up. HRM was not charged so just ran and aimed to set some sort of mark for this winter. Did 19:20ish in fairly even splits without pushing too much, so not so shabby. Some tightness in right hamstring/ITB.

Orienteering 30:00 [3]

Surveying at Riverside for a couple of hours

Run 20:00 [3]

Loosener. Waterloo, towards the monument, feeling quite sprightly and no soreness in right ham. .
Serious money in this area, and the porsche owner club is thriving. Indeed members chose this warm morning to go to work in their vintage 911s.
7 PM

Run 40:00 [3]
shoes: Blue Swoops 3

First head torch run, on tracks in open beech wood nr waterloo. 10 mins of 20/20s in middle. Longer than I really had time for due to temporarily being erm unaware of my location in the middle of a foreign wood in the dark with no map or compass. Muppet.

WU CD at Beanley.

Orienteering 1:30:00 [3]
shoes: Blue Swoops 3

The 1:15 map and i became even less friendly today. Heavy rain, so the magnifier was completely useless.
Actually enjoyed the first loop Its possible to pick runnable lines through most of it, and I managed to not lose too much time in the invisible detail in the circles. Please with the longer leg to 8 - good plan, ran strongly to good attack point an fell onto control from above. Next leg should be a simple 200m contour to a crag, in among mapped boulders, but it took about 15 mins - very much unmapped rock and the crag eventually showed up in bracken and much higher than I expected.
The GPS never lies: I did arrive into the rockfield about 20m (horizontal) below the control and got back within a few metres of the control within about 2 mins. Lost 13 mins. Would be interested to go back.

Not sure what to learn. I would try to avoid 1:15 but chose to run up knowing that was part of the choice. But having said that, M50 ran on 1:15 also. With a magnifier and accepting that occasional stops are needed, this would have been just about OK were it not for the rain.
Good map and mch of it is a great area.

Run 20:00 [3]
shoes: 'Red' Jalas Blacks

Wu CD from Odyssey day 1 at Beanley.

Run 1:22:00 [3]
shoes: 'Red' Jalas Blacks

OO Day 1, Beanley.

Chose to run up, and therefore had a 1:15 map. We never became friends. I often cold not see enough to make sensible small route choices or to be confident in the circle.
However that did not excuse a 3 minute excursion across very rough moor to completely the wrong knoll; v poor compass work after being thorn off avoiding some unmapped bracken. Missed a couple of times let on when I couldn't see enough on the map. Felt OK physically. Smehow, Morten managed to be 20 mins quicker.

Note
(rest day)

It has pi**ed down all day, am tired, have spent half the week with ill-sounding people, and could easily feel ill myself if put my mind to it.
Decided to drop any plans for running this evening.
