Perfect day for it, awesome views, loved the technical trail, especially the first section of downhill, unfortunately the body wasn't on board.
Cruised off at the start and led up the first hill. Once we started climbing my heart rate went up super high even though my pace was probably similar to a training run (and it stayed very high the entire race). Tried to get things together, came through Woolshed Creek in second, but had to walk the majority of the hill from there. Legs were just absolutely empty and just felt weak. Was 4th at the saddle and hit the descent pretty hard, back up to 2nd place past pinnacle hut etc. As soon as it stopped being all downhill I was back on struggle street and probably would have been passed by walkers going up Dukes Knob. Couldn't even run the little hills on the last 5km into Staverly, had dropped to 4th by the finish.
Ended up 10-15mins slower than I thought I could do. Definitely think I have overdone the running these last 5 weeks. I had made a conscious effort to try and increase my volume of easy running at the expense of Cross training and a rest day each week. Clearly the extra volume didn't pay off. Will have a week off to reset my body a bit and then do a few lower volume weeks with some key sessions for Luxmore.
Pretty keen to go back and give that race a proper crack, definitely embarrassed to have that as my time.

Easy jog and strides in Logan park. Legs still feeling tired, but sort of in a way that feels like they are recovering? Think I need to go back to taking my recovery days even easier, or alternatively including one complete rest day each week.
