Saturday May 6

Event: West Point A meet

Orienteering race (green y course) 1:36:25 [4]*** 4.95 km (19:29 / km) +175m 16:33 / km
spiked:9/12c shoes: Jala Jukola Spider 6 new
Day 1 at West Point. Same first control as on Brown and I got there with Judy Dickinson who started at the same time as me. Not great route choices on 3 (went around the wrong swamp), and 6, and I checked out GreenX # 9 before finding mine. Did anyone else think #10's bag/punch was on the unmapped 4th boulder in the line?
Orienteering race (sprint) 37:04 [5]*** 2.88 km (12:52 / km) +100m 10:58 / km
spiked:16/18c shoes: Jala Jukola Spider 6 new
I probably didn't need the extra distance or climbing, but who cares. :-) Only 5.9 km tomorrow... (good training for the Billygoat, right?). I didn't really do # 2 cleanly since I started heading uphill in the clearing (towards the buildings) before realizing I needed to cross some woods first. And I stopped short on # 4 at another downed tree trunk (but no real root ball attached) wondering where the rootstock was.

Orienteering race (Brown Long-O course) 1:30:00 [3]*** 4.89 km (18:24 / km)
spiked:10/10c shoes: Jala Jukola Spider 6 (old)
F-brown open. Perhaps not the best route choices, but my time is about what I expected given the light green woods on most of the course. I also took the opportunity to stop at the viewpoint on the way to #6 (mapped as a cross--it's not a cemetery but a couple of large wood crosses that look out over the Hudson valley). Time not official because I vetted # 3 for Glen earlier in the season, though I hadn't been on the rest of the map.
