Walking 1:45:50 [2] 4.4 mi (24:03 / mi)
shoes: Trail NB 706 9D # 1

Hike on Meadow Falls trail in Snowy Mtn. Range, accessed from the Silver Lake parking area. Hiking at ~10,000 ft, so I could really feel any uphills. The Falls themselves are probably a bit more dramatic earlier in the year (with snowmelt); it was more like a stream trickle now.

I put intensity 2 because even though at least half the hike was intensity 1, the uphills felt like 4 or 5! Took an hour-long nap when we got back to the hotel; need to be (somewhat) fresh for the Night-O Champs tonight.

Orienteering race (Night-O) 1:37:12 [3] *** 5.1 km (19:04 / km)
spiked:8/10c shoes: Jala Jukola Spider 6 (old)

US Night-O champs. Finished 2nd of 4(?).

Missed #5 off to the east (hit the spur too low and turned the wrong way...), #7 (hit the reentrant to the east but wasn't sure which wooded reentrant it was). Route choice to #9 was sure and steady (via #3) but south through the clearing to the open spur just south of #1 looks like a better/faster route.

Orienteering race (RM1000Day -- WSC#2) 1:26:22 [4] *** 5.5 km (15:42 / km) +200m 13:17 / km
spiked:12/14c shoes: Jala Jukola Spider 6 #2

A fine run through #5, then I messed up my plan for #6 and lost at least 5 minutes. Again on #7, I wound up in the right reentrant but turned left instead of right and took awhile to find myself. From there on in I executed okay. 4th out of 5 (or 6?)overall for F50.

Walking 1:30:00 [1] 3.0 mi (30:00 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Shadow 6000 8.5 #2

Hiked the Turtle Rock trail at Vedauwoo (it loops around the large rock outcrops). Nice and sunny when we started; gray clouds rolled in when we were halfway around, and rain started falling when we were 3/4's.... So we got a little damp, and cut through the parking area to get back to the car.

Orienteering race (RM1000Day -- WS Champs) 1:21:38 [4] *** 5.32 km (15:21 / km) +230m 12:37 / km
spiked:9/11c shoes: Jala Jukola Spider 6 (old)

The starter missed telling us to start for about 20 seconds, so I've listed what was on my watch rather than the 1:22:00 in the official race list. Protesting wouldn't change my placement today (hope it doesn't affect things later in the week; probably not).

Slightly off the left on #2 (I saw the bag but thought my control was in the next reentrant along, then thought better of that thought; lost about 20 seconds). Took the left-then-center route to #9 but misread reentrants during the 8 contour climb and had to re-find myself at the top; lost about 3-4 minutes?). Nice area! 4th of 6 F50.

Cool and windy today with some showers.

Orienteering race (RM1000Day Prologue) 32:47 [4] *** 2.52 km (13:01 / km)
spiked:8/10c shoes: Jala Jukola Spider 6 #2

I was off to the right on 1 and 2; about 40 sec error. Otherwise clean run.

Sunny and hot (but dry!).

Orienteering race (RM1000Day Chase) 46:26 [3] *** 3.5 km (13:16 / km)
spiked:8/8c shoes: Jala Jukola Spider 6 #2

Since it was advertised at 6.5k+ I decided to only run the first part and stop where it looped back close to the finish. Distance is estimated; the second loop was slightly shorter. No problems but didn't push the pace, knowing Saturday was an A-meet day.

Still hot and very sunny.

Orienteering race (RM1000Day Stampede) 1:31:30 [4] 5.25 km (17:26 / km)
shoes: Jala Jukola Spider 6 (old)

We flew in to Denver the day before the terrorist scare (can't take gels and lotions in carry-on bags), avoiding the worst of the security back-ups; drove up from Golden in time to run the Stampede. Very low-key; grab a punch card and get ready to run. :-)

This was a 3-loop affair; two short loops (with some runners going on loop A first and some doing loop B, then a longer one that everyone did. We visited the same control-in-the-woods three times. Fun.

I don't have the map handy so can't put in length, but it was around 5.25 k, I think (I can always edit it later).

Sunny and hot (it's a dry heat).

Running (paved) 36:41 [3] 3.0 mi (12:14 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Shadow 6000 8.5 #2

Malden Bridge loop plus an extra 0.1mi to make it even. :-) Nice sunny weather, not too humid, 75F -- superb! A taste of Wyoming, perhaps?

Walking 6:00 [2] 0.36 mi (16:41 / mi)

Time estimated (didn't have my watch on). To mailbox and back to post a letter.
