Orienteering race (Green Y course day 2) 1:18:46 [4]*** 5.5 km (14:19 / km) +165m 12:27 / km
spiked:12/13c shoes: Jala Jukola Spider 6 new
Found all the controls okay except for # 2, which was most of my 6-7 minutes of error (the rest was just feeling physically slow on hill climbs).

Though I guess it's fair since everyone had the same map, I didn't like how the circle and the number for the second control was somewhat hidden in the complex area of the map near the rock and creek, and thought I was headed to # 3 coming out of the 1st control (actually, I think my mind said that #2 was #1 and all I had to do was go around the big spur...). Others would tell me that pace counting would've been a good indication that I wasn't heading right. In any case, I came out into the field W of 1 and 2 near the distinct trees and relocated from there, after noting on my watch that I was on the way to #2(!), not #3 and then finding #2 on the map.

I trotted along the Mason-Dixon line between 8 and 9. :-)

AOWN (maybe): hunting dogs and horses (and their people) in one of the big fields near the M-D line.

Green Y: Day 2 - Splits

Saturday Mar 31

Orienteering race (Green Y course) 1:08:09 [4]*** 5.21 km (13:05 / km) +230m 10:43 / km
spiked:11/12c shoes: Jala Jukola Spider 6 (old)
Smooth and steady pace; slowed down (as usual) by the hill climbs. But the course was decent, including a few legs with route choice that DIDN'T involve just climbing up and over a big spur (versus running WAY around).

Orienteering race (Sprint) 31:44 [5]*** 2.7 km (11:45 / km) +60m 10:35 / km
spiked:11/12c shoes: Jala Jukola Spider 6 (old)
If you ran this on the beelines you were at somewhat of a disadvantage because of flag placement, for example on #2. If you went down the trail from 1, you could see the flag, but if you went on the beeline, both the feature (narrow fence, I think) and flag were "hidden" behind a wide-enough tree. Bummer.

Lost a couple minutes on the trail between 5 and 6 when a 6" high rock jumped up and tripped me (skinned couple layers off my hand, hit/bruised my knee, that sort of stuff), so I was little slow getting started again, but managed to lope on through the rest of the course without further injury.

So I could probably have done about 3 or so minutes faster...

Day 1: Green Y - Splits

Friday Mar 30

Event: DVOA A-Meet (Interscholastics)

Wednesday Mar 28

Exerc. Class warm up/down 55:00 [2]
We did more step in class today--yeay! And the shoulder exercises weren't as excruciating as in recent classes...
Fitness equipment 25:00 [1]
About 10 minute on various strengthening equipment (at the Y) that work the upper and lower body, getting them set up and learning how they work so I can go back and do it myself next time. Then I spent 15 minutes on the elliptical because I was there.

Tuesday Mar 27

Walking 30:58 [3]2.0 mi (15:28 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Shadow 6000 8.5 #2
Had to mail some letters/bills, and it was approaching gorgeous outside (mid-50's with the sun trying to come out), so I took a walk. I just hope it's this nice this weekend....

Monday Mar 26

Exerc. Class 55:00 [1]
Strength and aerobics; no step. Blech.

The stretching is almost as important as the aerobic benefit; my right hip area always tightens up more after I run than my left for some reason.
