Saturday Dec 1

Exerc. Class 55:00 [2]
Ex. class in Chatham (one of the few Saturday classes I've gone to -- there's usually orienteering to go to instead, but this weekend, I'm going to stay inside and warm! Not used to this cold stuff yet...). A dozen women and one man (who came with his wife).

Then I headed out to the elementary school's craft fair where I purchased my poinsettias. I've always bought them there since my kids were at the school (it's sponsored by the PTA, and I was in the PTA so I know how much work goes into it, and where the raised funds go). Also caught up with a few moms I hadn't seen in awhile...nice.

(added note about the craft fair)

Friday Nov 30

Exerc. Class 50:00 [2]
shoes: Saucony Shadow 6000 8.5 # 3
At the Y. She was really pushing the pace today (seemed faster than usual, and other class members remarked on it), but I was able to keep up 98% of the time. I'll probably feel my legs tomorrow.
Followed by...
Strength 15:00 [1]
Fitlinxx machines (all 8 of them - 5 upper/3 lower body). Skipped the pull-downs.

The machines are lined up in a row and you're supposed to start at the first one and work your way down. At # 4 the 1/2 plate (intermediate weight) was missing so I did it using lighter weight than normal (rather than risking using too much and hurting something). I found the 1/2 plate 2 or 3 machines down the line (that machine had its own 1/2 plate; the extra one was lying on the floor), and put it back where it belonged (because I'm like that; yes, I straighten up misshelved books at the library, too).

Exerc. Class 55:00 [2]
Another good class in Chatham. I could really feel some of the leg muscles I used yesterday doing intervals, so I guess I did them right, anyway.

Jennifer (instructor) spent half the time wondering why one of the long-time members hadn't been there in a few weeks, taking the absence too personally (as she does everything :-) ) -- several others said "Pick up the phone and call her!" Well, duh. (Though I can't say I'm the type to do that either.) How many of you are you phone-phobic too?

Tuesday Nov 27

Running (road) warm up/down 17:20 [3] 1.5 mi (11:33 / mi)
Temps in the mid-40's and sunny (and breezy) took me outside to do my intervals instead of driving up to the Y. I had to recalculate what my pace should be, and what distance to run (so I figured .25 mi in 2:25 fits with my 5k time of 31:00).

Ran 66 N because I knew that beyond about 1.25 miles it's flat and mostly straight (with corn fields on either side).
Running (road) intervals 18:23 1.75 mi (10:30 / mi)
Quarter-mile intervals - 4 fast, aiming for 2:25 pace, and 3 slower (then I went into cool-down mode) recovery quarter miles:
2:25 / 2:56
2:22 / 2:44
2:27 / 3:10
2:19 ....
FR let me know when I'd gone 0.25 mi.
C • Nice workout! 3
Running (road) warm up/down 14:38 [3] 1.16 mi (12:36 / mi)
Cool down, heading back home (generally uphill, whereas the warm-up was generally downhill from home).

Monday Nov 26

Exerc. Class 55:00 [2]
Ex. class in Chatham. Really felt the legs (from all that climbing yesterday at Mt. Tom). :-) And the stretching helped as always -- something I don't always remember to do outside of class...

Sunday Nov 25

Event: Mt Tom

Orienteering race 1:43:01 [4] *** 5.2 km (19:49 / km) +260m 15:51 / km
spiked:8/12c shoes: Jala Jukola Spider 6 new
Green course at NEOC's annual post-Thanksgiving Mt. Tom meet (Phil Bricker, course designer). Plenty of climb. :-) Good use of the technical area north of the road that bisects the park.

# 2 was my biggest boo-boo as I climbed a couple extra contours before realizing the hill was too steep; I hit the stream at a rock 75 m NW of the control instead of one located 55 m S. About 3 min lost. Other "non-spikes" are controls I was tentative going to; maybe 6-7 min lost for hesitations.

Physical course, with practically all the climb in the 1st 2/3rds of the course (plus a few ups and downs over parallel reentrants).

FR distance: 5.77 km.
