Note

Forerunner logged me at 6.05 km covered; SportTracks at 7.53, but the track has a lot of wiggles that I'm pretty sure I didn't do (especially on the road run near the end), so I'll call it 6.5.

Track

If you look at the track you can see my wanderings to 4. I left 3 and looked at my compass a couple of times which said I was headed west, so when I got to the low/swampy area with the large hill I thought I was to the SW of it. My plan was to go up along the big cliff to the NW of the hill, but when things started not looking right I revised my plan rather than retracing my steps. Took a bit of extra work to get through more blueberry/laurel than intended. At 5 I think I lost confidence in where I was but thought I had drifted a bit farther south than I needed to be, so once the cliffs didn't match I went north looking for the distinct NW facing reentrant that the cliff was in. On 7 I just chased a similar looking rock which was on a lower contour -- ugh. But I was pleased with my map-reading to 2 and 3 and 6.

Knee complained a couple of times on uphills, and tweaked left ankle once but it was okay without extra support, which is good news.

Exerc. Class warm up/down 55:00 [1]

Ex. class in Chatham. Stiff going into class. I tried to put a little more pep in my aerobics and stepping. Stretching felt wonderful!

Instructor was talking about an entertainment magazine and the trend for spiked high-heeled sandals for summer. I said that I use "spiked shoes" for orienteering. Others in the class asked me to bring them in to show. I bet they won't think they're glamorous, though. :-)

Orienteering (Green course) 1:45:35 [3] *** 4.6 mi (22:57 / mi)
spiked:5/8c shoes: Jala Jukola Spider 6 #2

HVO - Surebridge Mtn. starting from camping area where the A-meet started a couple years ago. Perfect weather, mid-40's and sunny. I felt fine out there, though I wasn't moving quickly and made a few inattention errors (#'s 4, 5, and 7), but I had some really nice legs too (the long one, # 3, was one). Fun. Maybe add more tomorrow when I've downloaded my Forerunner.

Running (treadmill) warm up/down 8:50 [3] 0.75 mi (11:47 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Shadow 6000 8.5 # 3

Warming up on the treadmill, set at 5.2 mph, which is the pace I decided on for the next part...

Running (treadmill) hills 14:15 intensity: (8:15 @3) + (6:00 @4) 1.25 mi (11:24 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Shadow 6000 8.5 # 3

Treadmill with hill intervals, 6 x 1min @ 5% with a minute to minute-and-a-half rests in between, then just running.

Hiking hills 14:00 [3] 0.75 mi (18:40 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Shadow 6000 8.5 # 3

Then "hiking" on the treadmill, 0.25 at 10%, 0.25 at 5%, another 0.25 at 10%, speed set at 3.2 mph.

Walking warm up/down 10:00 [2] 0.5 mi (20:00 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Shadow 6000 8.5 # 3

Strength 12:00 [0]

Then some strength machines (5 Fitlinxx arm machines + 10 @ 62.5lbs pulldowns and 2*12 @ 60 lbs thigh adductor), plus 2 x 15 dips per side on a step (knee strengthening). Followed by stretching.

Exerc. Class 55:00 [1]

In Chatham. Normal strength and stretching, plus a little bit of stepping and aerobics.

Hiking hills 32:09 [2] 1.35 mi (23:49 / mi)

Hand Hollow east -- up the big hill and back down. Would have been a little more strenuous if I hadn't kept stopping to pick up sticks and small branches and move them off the trail/track. Lake at top of hill still partly frozen.

Cloudy (threatening to rain, but it didn't while I was out) and 60. Super!

Walking hills 38:08 [2] 2.51 mi (15:12 / mi)

Used an older pair of trail shoes (NB 704) that I found in my closet that don't look too worn (although the insole has been replaced). I can't remember why I stopped using these. I liked my 705s better, but they didn't make them for very long.

SUPER nice day for a walk on the roads near home. Walked to Hanley Rd. and back. Kept being distracted by all the litter along the road, so next time I'll bring a trash bag.

Earlier in the afternoon I did storm cleanup near Sutherland Pond at Ooms Conservation area (CLC-organized), moving branches that came down in the winter ice storms to create wildlife habitat with a group of about a dozen. Perfect day for it, and there was a nice breeze off the pond nearby.
