Orienteering race 1:35:56 [3] *** 6.68 km (14:22 / km) +187m 12:36 / km
spiked:8/9c slept:6.5 shoes: Jala Jukola Spider 6 #2

Edited - added FR track; straight line distance 4.7 km. Mostly sunny and about 70 degrees for mostly comfortable conditions.

HVO-Rockhouse Mtn green course -- Pretty clean on all controls except slowed to look early on 2 and botched the route from 8-9 going through green I should have been far away from. Fun to skirt around the big iron ore mine, and see the waterfall after my control 6; mountain laurel not so much. I would love this map without the laurel and some of the blueberries (not in season yet, berries still green). Thanks to the Bretons, Geof C (e-punch) and other HVO helpers.

Running (paved) warm up/down 4:00 [3]
shoes: Jala Jukola Spider 6 #3

Jogged down to the rest rooms and back before going out on the long/red course at Tawasentha.

Orienteering race 1:27:35 [4] *** 7.42 km (11:48 / km) +273m 9:58 / km
spiked:23/25c slept:7.5 shoes: Jala Jukola Spider 6 #3

Very nice long course on this small town park map, designed by Will Kennerly. He used several butterfly loops to add distance and interest even in the more open park section east of the Normanskill Creek. I looked at the "ford the creek" option from 10-11 but decided I didn't want to chance swimming. :-) I was careful in the steeper gullied forested hillside in the SW portion of the map because I had gone off the map last time here. Also because it had rained and the clay hillside was treacherous. My non-spikes [edit: non-spiked controls] were more route choice errors than difficulty finding the control.

I enjoyed the "tour de Tawasentha" -- hard to come up with new places to go here, but the course was fun even with the off-and-on drizzle most of the day. Good turnout of EMPO regulars.

Note

Added FR.
Straight line distance 6.2 km, and Glen counted 270m climb(!).

Pilates class 55:00 [1]

Used rings, so we did lunges as well as other nice hip exercises. Instructor doesn't really like using the ring so we only do it about once a month.
11 AM

Fitness equipment (elliptical) 40:00 [2]
slept:8.0 shoes: Sauc.Shad.6000#7-2012H

First 20 minutes I didn't have a level set so did whatever came up; second 20 minutes was at level 3. 1.85 mi

Enjoying birthday ice cream (I know, really bad) in honor of my younger son's birthday tomorrow.

Pilates class 55:00 [0]

No tools. One of the moves (half pushup with one leg extended, elbows pointed back instead of out) bothered my left knee (kneecap didn't like it) so I did them without the leg extensions. Shoulder still complained.
11 AM

Walking (indoor track) 28:31 [2] 2.0 mi (14:15 / mi)
slept:7.0 shoes: Sauc.Shad.6000#7-2012H

Easy day, did two miles on track at the Y; much, much cooler than outside where it's still 89 but not storming here (yet) at almost 4pm. 14:06 and 14:25 miles, stopping to stretch in between because various muscles were complaining.

Added QR images for the Saturday events to their entries.

My QR for Farsta Medium H-A:

From WesternMass5Day2012

29/32 overall; 8/11 women (including one M/F team)
I figured I'd finish in about 2 hours or so, considering the heat and the climb, and I was pretty close.
