QuickRoute from Mountain Lakes

Orienteering race 1:30:00 [4] *** 6.38 km (14:07 / km) +205m 12:09 / km
spiked:12/13c slept:6.0 shoes: Inov8 ORoc280-A 2013-08

Green course (5.1 km 215m climb) at Mountain Lakes, scene of HVO's A meet last fall. It had rained overnight/early morning so conditions were cool but humid. My glasses fogged on the way to the second control and were useless...but thank goodness for my magnifier.

Very nice course by KPop, using the open woods well with some thicker-vegetation areas thrown in if you chose to go there. I did go through some barberry areas but mostly scattered and I only had to step on one plant to get through. Slowed down (not that I was going all that fast) a couple times to readjust my Active Ankle which kept wanting to twist and dig into the outside of my foot. I had difficulty recognizing the yellow ride (utility ride) and didn't use it much but figured out where I was, mostly. On the long leg (7-8) took the road and then reentrant though the saddle between 2 and 3, crossing the stream very close to the lower trail.

Lost time to 11 when I didn't really find the shelf* on the map and was too low on the hill and had to climb back up 2-3 contours. Enjoyed the gravity assisted leg from 12-13 where I could actually run. :-)

It appears HVO will get this area remapped (contours are mostly great, but other details are either overmapped or hard to see due to improper symbol size)--we saw Eric Weyman in the parking lot. Great terrain, lousy map.

* Aha...there *is* no shelf...there's a contour missing, and even if you added it back in, the index contours in that area (on the entire hill) don't work out right. If I post my map, look at where the index contour comes to an end just south of number 9.

Walking 30:40 [3] 3.21 km (9:32 / km) +49m 8:52 / km
ahr:111 max:141 shoes: Sauc.Shad.6000#7-2012H

Test of the FR 220 on a walk in Malden Bridge, using heart monitor. The display read 2 miles when I finished, Garmin Connect shows 3.22 km, and AP shows 1.997 miles/3.214 km. Overcast and mid 70s temp.

I tried to keep the cadence up, and figure 15:00 miles are pretty good for this route. (AP originally uploaded the file at 33+ minutes which I changed to reflect the time on Garmin Connect...still getting used to the buttons and displays and I may have turned it on inadvertently after finishing.)

Pilates class (bands) 55:00 [1]

A lot of upper body things early on stressed my shoulder so I stopped using it after a while. Good leg workout, though.
11 AM

Walking (indoor track) 36:27 intensity: (6:03 @1) + (30:24 @3) 2.33 mi (15:39 / mi)
shoes: Sauc.Shad-6000#8-2014H

Felt a bit spunkier (autocorrect doesnt like that word) than on Tuesday but still a bit slower than I've done in the past.

Exerc. Class 55:00 [1]

Continuous motion for 20 minutes (mostly) with aerobics and step, then weights after.

Pilates class 55:00 [1]
slept:6.5

Standing warm up (including pliƩs and warrior poses...yay for balance exercises which I need to do more of) and a mostly body-weight session with just a touch of triceps and biceps with weights at the end. Got surprisingly warm on the chest fly/leg lowering combo.
11 AM

Walking (indoor track) 35:05 intensity: (3:49 @1) + (31:16 @2) 2.2 mi (15:57 / mi)
shoes: Sauc.Shad-6000#8-2014H

Managed two miles while being careful not to land too hard on left heel, so a bit slower than I do sometimes.

Pulldowns and leg presses after (we'd done enough adductors in Pilates class, so skipped that machine).

Exerc. Class 55:00 [1]
slept:7.5

Low key and on the floor class (no stepping). Blister under callus on left heel not bothering too much after I padded it a bit (just a band aid so far), but I may want to find something to do after Pilates that doesn't involve walking.

Our choices yesterday were the Rochester Map Adventure (which we'd never done before...and we still didn't get downtown), or UNO's Pawtuckaway local meet, each approximately equidistant from where we live. This log post confirms that Rochester was the right decision.

Only one weekend without an organized orienteering event so far since March 21 (Memorial Day weekend).

My "baby" is 27 today...how time flies.
