Prize for Lowlander finishers

The Hudson Highlander finishers receive a permanent prize (T-shirt this year with an awesome logo), and all Lowlander finishers this year received a pastry item (first time anyone other than top man/woman got anything). I think an edible prize for Lowlanders is a great tradition and hope it continues. ;-)

The Highlander T-shirt design can be seen in this photo collection by Stefan Slutsky.

Walk/Jog warm up/down 14:02 [3] 1.56 km (9:01 / km) +33m 8:09 / km
shoes: Inov8 ORoc280-A 2013-08

To the start of the Hudson Lowlander.

Had a hurried warm up jog because I was most of the way across the parking lot near Kanawauke Circle when I realized I didn't have an epunch which I must have dropped near the car or in the parking lot. Retraced my steps to car but didn't see it; looked around in the car. Getting farther behind now; figured I could borrow one from HVO and ask them to please look for mine.

At start, borrowed epunch didn't want to clear or check but did beep at controls. I did the entire Lowlander course with Donna Fluegel. We were both given the time on her epunch as mine had an extra 80 minutes on it.

Orienteering 4:47:39 [3] *** 17.4 km (16:32 / km) +368m 14:57 / km
spiked:20/22c shoes: Inov8 ORoc280-A 2013-08

Lowlander, nominally 13.5 km and 485 meters of climb (thankfully). My watch has at least 17 km on it and didn't start until after I punched #1 (which corresponded with #11 on the Hudson Highlander course). Lowlander used the third and fourth sections of the Highlander, on the Harriman Rockhouse and Sebago maps.

Temperature was in the low 40s, partly sunny with the occasional light snow shower. :-)

I survived, though my knees and ankles weren't happy about the second half. It was fun doing it with Donna because otherwise I would have been entirely on my own except for Highlander folks catching up and passing. We saw our first HH runner at #15 (our fifth control and first water stop), Isak, who eventually finished 2nd. Jordan, who won, must have passed us between 13 and 14 while we were battling more laurel than we should have.

The last loop on Sebago had much more road and trail running options and we tried to jog where we could. I was SO happy to finish.

Added 0.2 km to the distance and 35m to climb (start to #1); time for split was 4:42; total time per download was 4:47:39

Pilates class (weights) 50:00 [1]
slept:7.0

Weights with a focus on upper body including shoulders and triceps.

I sat up during the relaxation period after triceps to stretch them because if I don't I know they'll be sore later; and one was still a bit sore from last weekend.
11 AM

Walk/Jog 39:03 intensity: (3:24 @1) + (35:39 @3) 2.58 mi (15:08 / mi)
shoes: Sauc.Shad-6000#8-2014H

Two miles walking (30:36), then 5.5 laps jogging (5:03, ~0.38 mi); then 0.2 mi cool down (3:24). Jogging probably wasn't that much faster than walking...

Exerc. Class 50:00 [1]
slept:7.0

Right hip and outer part of right calf sore at times. I wonder if that's a remnant of my fence tripping over the weekend (about which I cannot even remember if I fell any of the 3 tripping episodes...).

Note

Maps from the weekend. What I find bizarre is that my track from Saturday doesn't show me going near Sunday's #10 though I was at the control; on Sunday it doesn't show me going right by Saturday's #11 (220) that I had trouble with, though I was close enough to read the number.

10 AM

Pilates class (bands) 50:00 [1]

Upper body is sore. Didn't do down dogs for as long as the others.

I strained triceps on one arm when I stumbled over old fencing in the Harris Center woods on Sunday (which may be the same bit I tripped over on Saturday. I was very tempted then to go back out with some flagging tape...).
11 AM

Fitness equipment 21:00 [3]
shoes: Sauc.Shad-6000#8-2014H

Elliptical. 11 minutes on the "weight loss" program then 10 on the hill interval program, 1.03 distance units.

Walking (indoor track) 11:49 intensity: (3:56 @1) + (7:53 @3) 0.7 mi (16:52 / mi)
shoes: Sauc.Shad-6000#8-2014H

Then, because right foot wasn't happy on the elliptical, did a half mile on the track plus 0.2 mi cool down. A mish-mash of a workout...
