Exerc. Class 50:00 [1]
slept:7.0

5-5-5 in Chatham.

New exercise thrown into this new 6-week session is calf raises. I like the fact though she's been teaching for 30 years(?) she's not afraid to try something new. [After a Pilates instructor joined her to round out the week she added a few more ab exercises into her rotation.] Still not enough balance or inner thigh stuff but I do them on my own or in addition.

Note

AOWN: Besides the three bucks and a doe in the yard, near sunset this afternoon (along wth dozens of robins), I saw a bald eagle cruising over the Kinderhook Creek today in my drive home from the exercise studio.

Final event in NE Challenge series, set by Alex J. (Thanks! And many thanks to Larry and Sara Mae for holding down the fort at registration and refreshments. )

Advanced course was 5.0 km, set in Middlesex Fells. It had a middle/control picky feel to it except for a couple of longer legs so a lot of fun. Parallel errors on 5 and 9; I'm also not counting 4 as a spike because I was headed by it but saw someone coming out of it so I corrected.

Green course at Gay City, organized by Jim and Rich; nominal distance 4.5 km. Cloudy and 43 when we started, not much warmer when we finished though my head sweated under the buff I used to keep my ears warm.

Woods pretty much open but I couldn't move very quickly. Only real problem was not using the right techniques to find number 8. I should have either: a) used a closer attackpoint, like the trail bend or trail-stonewall junction, or b) pace counted from where I did leave the trail (just past where the stream crossed it). Anyway, I didn't go far enough and second guessed myself when I saw some stonewall to my west...thought it was the long straight N-S piece when it was actually the piece closer to the trail bend. I went out to the trail to relocate and then headed back in and found the flag/feature. Several minutes lost there; about 4:30, after looking at my track.

I went pretty much straight through the green/marsh after 8 and came out near the stonewall jct by the distinct tree. Glen passed me at the end, on the way toward the last control.

6th on the course when I finished, behind Karen (at 50:40) and Trisha Underwood and some guys. Nice day to be in the woods.

Pilates class (bands) 55:00 [1]
slept:6.25

Starting from a standing position, then launching into the stretchy bands.
11 AM

Walking (track) 32:59 intensity: (3:30 @1) + (29:29 @3) 2.2 mi (14:59 / mi)
shoes: Sauc. Grid Cohes.9 -a 8.5W

Pushing the pace felt okay, and I didn't need to stop and stretch my back today (I did, however, need to do some additional hamstring stretching after the walk). This might be my fastest one (just walking) since I started keeping track.

Walking (track) 33:45 intensity: (3:44 @1) + (30:01 @3) 2.2 mi (15:20 / mi)
shoes: Sauc. Grid Cohes.9 -a 8.5W

15:03/14:58/3:44 Woo...negative split!

Stopped to stretch between miles as my right lower back felt tight. Stretched hip flexors as well.
