Brown X day 1 at Classic Champs. Cold hands to start even w/ gloves, but I dressed appropriately for the race and enjoyed the sunshine.
Nominal 4.7 km, 150m climb. ~32-38F Beaver Dam Run map on the Quantico Marine Base

Purposely contoured around gully N of 2, reconfirmed position at the double rootstock SSW of control, but a bit hesitant in between. Clare, who started 4 min back, caught up between 2-3 and I saw her through 5; saw others at 7 and 8, and Glen passed me on trail approaching Go control, but I navigated much of the in-between parts alone.

Biggest time loss was probably 6 where I went to the road and left at the third x (post with ammo box), but stayed on the west side of the hill and misidentified/miscounted reentrants (not pace counting which I should have done here) so I slowed down trying to figure it out. Others stayed higher and used the ride which was a better route.

Some gully crossings were challenging, as I tried to keep my feet dry (and succeeded). I was thankful for the bridges across the bigger creek.

28/54 on Brown X; 4.5 min behind Mary Lynn G. who's first in F60.

Missed the sprints yesterday; memorial service for my mom. Today I was taking an O-break from cleaning, sorting, and discarding duties.

Remembered all my O stuff...except I left my Garmin watch behind. So no track; I will attempt to add my track manually to RouteGadget when available. Distance is estimated based on (edited) nancy's (I was 10 sec slower). Stats: 4.3 km, 85m climb Mt. Penn map

Cooler than expected so I was cold and running in place while waiting for my start time, but warmed up once I got moving. Some light fog on top of the ridge near start was not a problem once in the woods.

Slow to start because of the rockiness even on trails. Lost a bit of time to 5 at and after the second road. First, I missed the trail to the power one and went all the way to the paved area before figuring it out; second, I was trying to follow trails on the hill WSW of the control and ended up on the wrong one, but figured it out. No problems with the rest; I think AP shows time lost of almost 4 minutes. Good enough for 1st of four in F60 (Janet F, Keg G, and Donna T), and 11 sec behind Nancy D in F55. I'll take it.

Looking forward to the QOC meet next weekend for another mental break.
