Jere Knight hiking trails on Fuller Preserve with Glen (plus a bit of bird watching, especially at the end across the road from the car where I thought I had stopped my watch; time/distance adjusted per Glen's watch). Another spectacular day; low 70s and mostly sunny.

We'd discovered this area while on our way to Nockamixon via a different route than usual when we saw the trailhead and cars. Today was a great time to check it out.

There's a field on the property with a small experimental grove of American chestnuts, which they're trying to grow for blight resistance. The forest has lots of tall trees and little undergrowth most places except for invasive gsrlic mustard and areas of barberry. Heard tons of birds but they were mostly elusive; we did see brown thrashers, cardinals, a male Baltimore oriole, and possibly a warbking vireo. Glen saw a common yellowthroat but once again it eluded me. At least two green frogs.

Jordan parkway mtb trails to start, but my butt is still sore from Nockamixon so it wasn't much fun (and trails were a bit wet making roots slippery). Bailed to main trail and rode it to end and returned to car. Beautiful day, upper 70s with just a touch of mugginess from overnight showers.

After putting my bike inside it, walked a bit looking for birds but didn't see many (though I heard quite a few).

Note

Padded shorts (actually biking underwear) on order.

Around the neighborhood. Still mid 70s, breezy, and partly cloudy as the sun set.

Around the block...all left turns until I got home (I skipped an excursion through the development at Curly Horse, but maybe sometime if I want a bit more distance...).

Upper 60s, during which time it continued to cloud up, after a gorgeous afternoon earlier. Better conditions for walking, I'd say.

Brief stops to 1) chat with a neighbor (while still on the walking path) and 2) get a stone out of my shoe. I didn't stop my watch to patch a scratch on my lower leg that wanted to ooze (put a small piece of a leaf over it and pulled my sock up to hold it in place).

Strolling the western trail at Leaser Lake to see what bird species I could spot. Photographed a number of them and heard or saw several more. Turned around when Glen caught up to me (after having circled the lake and somehow bypassed me) and we walked back together. Around 60-63 and plenty of sun...spectacular day to be outside.

Photographed: orchard oriole, purple martins, eastern kingbird, killdeer, spotted sandpiper, an owl in a nesting box, cardinal, red tail hawk, tree swallow

Also some striped turtles and a junk-style sailboat.

We drove partway around the lake afterwards and stopped at the boat launch at the north end and walked some more, where we saw a green heron, several mayflowers in bloom, a woodpecker (downy or hairy), and (I think) a brown thrasher though that photo didn't come well. And some fungus on a tree trunk that looked like fake noses.

Edited distance and time

Trails at Nockamixon SP from Tower Rd. Forgot to start my watch until near the northern end, started it then and decided to head back because the trail was heading downhill. I was overdressed and planning to head south to do Haycock Run, so stopped at the parking lot to change shirt and drop my earband. The field I cut across was rather muddy closer in to the lot so I had to walk instead of ride it in.

I didn't figure I had enough time, then, to do more than a couple loops on Haycock before Glen would be back from his excursion, so I stayed on that loop. This is more fun ridden clockwise around than counter-clockwise. The second time around my chain came partway off the back gear so I had to stop and fix it, and slower riders ahead plus a few coming the opposite direction made me slow down or pull off. But the last time around I didn't have any obstructions. ~7:45, 8:45, 6:51 times for the laps

Popular trails, which had hikers as well as riders. Upper 50s and mostly sunny.

Yoga 50:00 [1]

Anniemac's hatha class from Saturday, featuring boat poses and side planks. Thanks again, Ann!

Earlier, I went to a local park from which people were posting photos of neat/new to me birds but I only saw familiar ones, and didn't get any good pics except of some more YRWs and some white violets. Not logged as I went about 2km in a bit over an hour.

Martins Creek Environmental Center near Belvidere, this time from the southernmost lot headed north along the Delaware. Low 60s with some breeze.

I had my travel binoculars and my camera along. I've joined the local Audubon Society and follow their facebook page so I've been learning about warblers. Only saw one kind here, a yellow-rumped warbler, but I can't say I'd ever identified one before so I can call it a life bird. Actually I saw quite a few of them in different places. I was hoping for more variety, but they were all yellow-rumped. Also saw a Carolina wren (and took a video of it singing), a pileated woodpecker, and a scarlet tanager (which actually looked more orange than scarlet!). And catbirds, blue jays, and robins.

Wild red columbines grew on some of the moss-covered boulders. This is a pretty neat area of rock outcrops. Some of the area appeared to have been logged but perhaps it was storm damage too because there were a number of large trees still there.

Walking 1:18:00 [3] 2.23 km (34:59 / km)

Columcille Megalith Park. Strolled around the boulders and paths for awhile, then forgot to turn off my watch before driving off towards home, so will have to finagle the distance somehow. Others on paths, some with masks and some without (we had ours along). Neat place.

Saw an American redstart but he wouldn't cooperate for a photo.

ahr:108 max:157

And a brisker walk back at home because I dilly-dallied earlier today (but it was fun!).
