Trying out a new loop from home to get closer to 4 miles, with climb. May adjust route at some point. 70-ish and humid (considering it showered earlier, and after we finished).

Looks like some middle school cross country action going on in the park today that we had to somewhat avoid.

Earlier in the day someone posted a pic of an eagle on one of the nearby powerline pylons, so we took a walk afterwards to check it out.

West End Regional Park bike trails. Short sleeved bike shirt, expecting to need a wind jacket at 65F, but it was humid enough that it felt warm enough without the jacket. Wore HR strap (but some data could be bogus). Fun exploring a new trail S of the road that connects two sections (1&2 of 3) of Extra Credit. Temp rose to mid 70s while we rode.

The first time around section 2 of EC I noted an area with Virginia creeper vines on the ground that had turned red, so the second time I passed through I stopped to take a photo. Just after snapping it I saw Glen ride by on the next trail over (part of Spruce Loop), and sure enough, in my photo there's a small orange blob visible through the trees. ;-)

Took the Pine Loop road out to where it started to drop down the hill and wasn't sure exactly where I was so I turned around and went back to the junction. Headed back to the car for a lunch break.

There's a new short double-humped boardwalk set up (currently) near parking so I tried it out, too.

Biking 26:53 intensity: (23 @0) + (15 @1) + (2:08 @2) + (9:04 @3) + (14:21 @4) + (42 @5) 3.89 km (6:54 / km) +26m 6:41 / km

After a break headed out again for a shorter loop. Down Draft to Fun Stuff, then around the entire loop labeled Round About (except for the very first part just off parking). Plus a couple fun loops through the catch basins next to the driveway into the parking lot.

Glorious day for riding, or doing anything outdoors!

Those Altra shoes really help for running on pavement! Cushions... mid 70s and getting more humid. Overcast but the sun came out a few times, just for me; then disappeared again after I was done.
4 PM

Yoga 55:00 [1]

Deanna's autumn equinox vinyasa class (level 1/2...there were a few things we had trouble with).
8 PM

Note

Found a small tick earlier when I showered after my walk, likely picked up yesterday. The ones I've found this year (this is the third in a month; all from different places--Swatara SP, Mountain Lakes, and Sandy Run) have all been <1mm size...tiny little things.

A selection of controls from Sandy's Feature Checking UsynligO course at Sandy Run near Hickory Run. Temps near 70, sunny.

The area near 1 & 2 is very confusing to me. The app told me I was at a control on my course but not the correct one, and I took a hint there. There is a smaller roundish low area with a small rise very near and similar to the big one between those two controls. Score O version gave me credit for #2 twice.

Okay through 4 then I angled out to trail. I saw two ruined stone walls (but mappable by some) on the way. #5 is in a vague area too (took another hint). Trail to 6 then cut in but hit a smaller wet area I thought was the stream first (hint). Decided to switch to Score O mode and skip 7-10 and go for 11 next and did fine 11-12 (skipped 13) -14.

14-15 I missed by a bit (lots of saplings reduce visibility here) and got another hint, then I mislocated myself thinking I was at 16 and attempted to get 17, but was not in the right area. Eventually gave up on 16-19 and got 20-21, but missed 22. At that point I figured Glen was just about done and decided to head to finish getting 29-30 on the way, which went well. Humbling.

Took waypoints at two giant boulders somewhere between 15-19 to try to see later where I actually was/if they are on the map. [edit: they're probably the ones N and NE of that "marsh" north of 15...I was way off from where I thought I was]

Nice day for O, though! Some trees starting to change colors as we got closer to the parkland, but not too much change yet.

Jasper Park in Vera Cruz. Lenape Indians used jasper from mines/pits here for tools. We could see the pits; there were signs warning people not to remove any minerals from the park.

Upper 60s and sunny blue skies.

2 PM

Hiking 1:18:39 intensity: (5:59 @0) + (45:49 @1) + (21:20 @2) + (5:06 @3) + (25 @4) 4.21 km (18:41 / km) +95m 16:47 / km

Burkhart Preserve on the ridge above Vera Cruz. Trails somewhat overgrown in places but still passable (except for the top of the white trail near the magnetite pits where stiltgrass hides the jumbled rocks you need to cross). A few cobwebs (Glen walked ahead of me so he got the brunt) but not nearly as many as when I was here last time (late July).

Near 70 and still sunny.

Stopped to watch a red-bellied woodpecker.

Jordan Parkway bike trails; some walking up hills in the first part. Enjoyed the windy trails up top, then crossed the wide gravel path to get to the creekside trail. Fell once in a gnarly section that had been somewhat washed out during Isaias leaving larger rocks behind; I'll have a bruise on my rt shin tomorrow.

Mid 60s and sunny (when one was out in it).

From parking lot across from the fish hatchery, along trails/bike trails above the Little Lehigh Creek...sometimes way above it. Felt like fall but not too many changed leaves yet. Low 60s and sunny when in the open.
