D&L rail trail north from White Haven PA, doing the uphill first. They call it "unimproved" but it was basically a well-used jeep road on a rail grade. Pretty good condition; a few places where it was wet (rain last night) or a bit rough, but mostly fine. It took almost 55 minutes to reach the turnaround point, and < 35 to ride back. Good leg workout.
We had a later than planned start because of problems with Glen's bike...first, he noted a detached-at-one-end spoke when loading the bikes onto the car rack, so we swung by the Trek store in Allentown on our way, where they fixed it.
Them as we pulled out of the parking lot, the bike tire exploded...on the wheel that had been worked on. So we pulled back in and they fixed that issue, and then we were on our way.
The temp was near 80 near home today, but in the low to mid 70s max. in White Haven. Very nice for riding. We passed two marshy ponds with yellow lily flowers just starting to bloom and turned around once we got to Moosehead Lake. No water birds to be seen, but we saw and heard a few others (nothing that sat still to be identified).
Unusual nature sightings were some type of wild azalea in bloom (maybe pinkster), and a Siberian larch with new soft red cones all over it. You may be able to see them on my
Facebook page.
We also encountered a doe grazing along the trail that didn't move until we passed by...we were downwind of her on our approach so she wasn't sure what we were.
