Tenth annual Bumble, a mass-start event with lots of twists. There are five windows, each with 5 controls, and how many windows you have to do depends on your course. I ran Brown, so I had to do 2 windows. Within each window, you can go to the controls in any order, but you have to go to all 5.
We returned to Smokey Glen today, where we were 2 years ago. I figured out that it would be quite similar to that race based on the meet notes. It turned out to be *very* similar; most of the controls were not the same but were within the circle of the previous control.
Temp was in the upper 20s with a NW breeze. I started out a bit overdressed with a light windbreaker layer over two LS and a SS shirt; took the windbreaker off after the 4th control and tied it around my waist. Comfortable the rest of the way.
I chose the same two windows, closest in to start/finish, as last time here, to try to minimize distance and time since I'm not a fast runner.
Not my best orienteering (again) in that in the first window I had my map folded such that I didn't notice one of the five controls in the window until after I reached the third and only saw one other...added almost an extra kilometer of distance to head out to the one I missed then backtracked to the fifth control.
In the second window I'd gone clockwise last time so I went counter-clockwise this time...no issues. Finished in exactly 100 minutes; last time here I took 83 minutes and figure I would have been around 85 if I hadn't missed that one....
Control order: #1-[O-N-L-K-M]-[P-S-T-R-Q]-#27-Finish
Dug out the ArcticClaw shoes because they keep my feet warmer in wintry weather, even though they're falling apart. Put enough Gorilla Tape on them to hold them together. ;-)
