Needed to finish two of the three roads here so I did them in a triangle. Noticed a sculpted tree in someone's yard and stopped to take some phone pictures.

Walked from grandson's kindergarten to a local fire station and back. Distance is good; we likely went slower than the time given, but it wasn't fast.

Note

Found a dog tick on the back of my leg this morning. He had taken a bite but was not engorged. Think I'll be okay.

To start of the Kid Goat at Gunstock Ski Resort, partway up a ski slope. Greeted by head goat Jon Nash who we hadn't seen in awhile since moved out of HVO territory to ME. Mid 50s and mostly overcast.

Orienteering race 2:02:45 intensity: (58 @1) + (16:52 @2) + (59:49 @3) + (41:35 @4) + (3:31 @5) *** 6.64 km (18:30 / km) +178m 16:19 / km
ahr:130 max:186 spiked:12/13c shoes: 2023 VJFalcon 6.5 Berman

Kid Goat at Gunstock, 5.7 km nominal, 170m climb on optimal route, 14 controls in total, 1:7500 map (thank you!). Like those in the Billygoat, we were allowed to skip 1 control of the 14...

Started off with Nancy Duprey in sight ahead, but once she decided to head to 2 (~9 contours in 250m distance), I said "no way" and doubled back toward #3. Nadia P hadn't been too far behind and I said to her I was skipping #2 and heading off to #3. She came that way too, and I didn't shake her (the first time) until I jogged down the hill to #5; she was coming in to 6 as I left. I overshot #8, though, and she punched ahead of me. Saw her crossing the stream to 10 and we were there at about the same time, but then I got ahead again. Bob Lux was also visible for most of the controls; I had pulled a bit ahead of him too on the way to 6 but my mistake at 8 let him catch up again; we were mostly together on all the stream crossings between 10 and 13. Once I left 13 I didn't see him again until the finish. Final placement was 15th out of 25+.

Edit: fell a couple of times but no real damage except for a small scrape on one finger and some banged toes. Left ankle, despite the brace, is tender and sore.

12 PM

Note

Livelox is a bit messed up as some of the Billygoaters are listed in the Kid results. Of the ones there now (Sunday evening), only John Henkleman (Kid winner), Michael Cooper, Jim Crawford and I were actually doing the Kid; the others did the Billygoat.
