Running 27:00 [3] 5.3 km (5:06 / km)

Easy run out round town, not great. Have been feeling my chest every now and again for about a month now, took 10 to get going. Doctors booked for Friday to see if its asthma or something else.

Running 1:06:00 [3] 14.2 km (4:39 / km)

Back to it after being on holiday - not sure why I didn't run while on holiday but guess I just needed a proper break from everything. Nice run out to the uni and back

Orienteering 1:06:00 [3] 9.7 km (6:48 / km) +370m 5:43 / km

O training on Dumyat with GG, Fanni, Nixon and Spongey. Warm up to the top where the start was then ran slightly gaffled courses. Found it tough going in terrain but was orienteering ok, started to get blisters 3/4 of the way round and slowed. Think I'm still wearing in these new O shoes as they seem to hurt my feet about 30 mins after wearing them, not 100% sure on them. Good to get out with a map though, have missed orienteering this year

Running 1:05:00 [3] 10.7 km (6:04 / km)

Easy run out to the Uni with K. Then ran two laps of the loch as a time trial - have been planning to do this session post marathon for a while but not in this kind of heat. Had a crack at it anyway to set a time to work on. Clocked 18mins for 4.7km (3:49min/km). After not doing consistent speed work for over a year now, theres a lot to work on. Finished off with an easy run back with K.

Running 5:05:00 [5] 44.0 km (6:56 / km) +1700m 5:49 / km

Scafell Pike Marathon - Had been looking forward to this race for a while. My first marathon race and a chance to run a race in the lakes again. Perfect conditions for me, warm enough to run in just a t-shirt but overcast keeping the sun off. Fairly big field of 200. The aim was sub 5 hours and to run my own race. Set off and hit the first few kilometres right on splits. Lots of people set off very quickly but I knew I would see later as they 'hit the wall'. Kept a good pace all the way up the valley to Seathwaite (13km) (probably around 30th) but feeling comfortable. Saw Kirsten and my mum there for a quick exchange of bottles. Off up onto the hill section - plan was to power walk all the steep uphills. Soon got to Styhead tarn after going past 3/4 people. Got on to the corridor route where I kept a consistent pace passing a few people. Hit the summit 2 mins ahead of my aimed time (2hrs 28 mins - 21km) still feeling good. On the section to Esk Hawes - kept the pace steady and made sure I was going the right way (passing about 5/6 runnners), saw and ran with Jonny for about 10 mins here where he gave me some jelly babies and we had a good old crack. Ran strong all the way down the hill to Seathwaite - another exchange of bottles with K & mum. Ran strong with another runner taking a couple of more places to Rosthwaite - the climb up to Watendlath was tough, cramping a little at the top. Pushed on down the valley to the next checkpoint feeling pretty good. Ran well from there onwards nearly catching the runner I'd been running with earlier until cramp stopped me... pushed on as hard as I could to the finish. Ended up 16th just outside my time goal. Very pleased with how I ran my own race not getting caught up in the madness at the start. Whats next then??
