running tempo (Yeldulknie Weir Trail par) 29:00 [4] 5.0 km (5:48 / km)
shoes: Asics Kayano 27

Following in Ricky’s footsteps today, ‘cos I surely wouldn’t have known that there’s a parkrun in Cleve if he hadn’t logged it a few years ago…

Slept badly because I was worried about it being too cold in the morning for my hands (having inadvertently left my gloves home) but in fact it only got down to 8 degrees so that was manageable and I even felt like exploring the local school (would make a good little sprint map) while warming up. Started off too fast because I was chatting to and trying to keep up with Susan George, then she took off at her real pace and I plodded along with completely dead quads from yesterday. Was unsurprised that Blair came through me on the first little hill after the turnaround (which symbol I had passed on the way into town yesterday) but at least I managed to keep the return journey with net uphill to only 20 sec slower than outbound. Couldn’t believe how much tougher this felt than yesterday’s casual sunset jog :(

orienteering race (Louth Bay) 44:14 [3] 5.0 km (8:51 / km)
shoes: Asics Nimbus 24 black/green

Pretty sure I’ve never been into Louth Bay before now despite umpteen road trips to Port Lincoln, so this was a novelty and also quite fun - it’s a tiny town with no jetty and about eight streets plus a nine- hole golf course amongst little scrubby dunes.

So what made this course interesting was the mental shifts in navigational pace when it became necessary to venture into the scrub looking for a basin or high point, and the opportunity to compare splits with Zara and Steve and Blair after dinner as we are all sharing a really lovely townhouse right on Lincoln Cove Marina and where homecoming tuna-fishing boats pass by right outside our living-room windows! And importantly, G & I have claimed the downstairs bedroom because my quads are refusing to go up & down stairs at all.
