orienteering race (Kuitpo ) 1:02:42 [3] 6.8 km (9:13 / km)
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon

Good day for a pleasant trot around the forest. I wasn't really feeling up to 9km so did the next one down - and at least I beat all the older men. The course wasn't rocket science, but more fun than terrain running and the control sites included a boulder I hadn't known about.

swimming 35:00 [3] 1.0 km (35:00 / km)

The swim I didn't have time for yesterday because of an 8am meeting at FMC. Thought I'd counted up that I had used my last ticket (of 30) already, so had brought cash - but now seem to remember that I (by accidental oversight?) wasn't required to use the card on the occasion when I first bought it.

running long 2:47:35 [3] 27.0 km (6:12 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel 2160

It was pretty warm in the sun on the way up Randell's this afternoon and I had to stop for a big drink when I got to the BP at Belair. Legs felt absolutely exhausted, but I was slightly quicker up the hill again this week. Anyway, it wasn't so bad along Sheoak Rd and then when I went into the park and up past the waterfalls that was quite shady. Still really thirsty by the time I got to the top of the park (79 min) and I really wished the fire water tap still functioned. Down past the burn from the train fire to the redwoods, then I did the bonus hill on the south side before getting a drink at Karka. Long Gully past the playground and out the gate at about 2:01, still feeling reasonably strong for the climb back to Belair although after another drink at the BP I just put my legs on autopilot and pointed them downhill because I was running out of steam. Did have to watch where I was putting my feet though, on the singletracks in the late afternoon sun.

This looks to have taken about 3 min longer than the equivalent run in Dec but I know I didn't go up the big hill from the redwoods then so that's at least an extra km today. If I am to run Sea to Summit I don't want a repeat of my poor performance at Two Bays, but I'm aware that S2S took me 3hrs 26 in 2010 when I was much fitter, and that the last few km uphill from Crafers are a killer. Plus of course, today's time didn't include all the stops, and the real run will have to :(

Note

Fridays at work are always horrible. But I did score some sympathy from my new boss.

running (Belair night) 45:14 [3]
shoes: Asics Gel 2160

I thought I was running late tonight, but I was the first to Belair! Once Simon then Will then Zara/Callum had arrived we trotted up the creek to the redwoods and back. Nice night for it :)

riding (Brownhill Creek) 1:02:00 [3] 19.5 km (3:11 / km)

Back didn't feel like running but it was too nice a morning to do nothing so I went for a ride. Rather out of practice but maybe I'll do a bit more riding over winter once the pool closes (this weekend).

Note

I left home 11 hrs 50 before I returned to it, and only the 5 mins each way walking to/from work weren't spent at work. But I have now submitted my chapter of the chemotherapy training manual to the working group - and am waiting for the inevitable requests to now cull it, after adding everything which everyone else asked me to include!

swimming 36:00 [3] 1.0 km (36:00 / km)

Slept craply - way too many work-related dreams (nightmares?) lately. Doubt I'd have got up early if I wasn't dropping Blair to the airport; whereafter I went for a swim, which was very relaxing - perfect water-to-air temperature ratio and no one else in my lane until the very last lap. I dawdled along but still had time to stop for coffee and banana bread at my preferred cafe on the way home, thus prolonging the weekend.
