Slow plod over to Mitcham & back; I'm no good in the mornings these days. Felt as though I weighed 100kg and was moving as slowly as a snail. Did chuckle at the thought that at least a mollusc of that magnitude would NEVER get stepped on!

Note

I can't begin to explain how much I would like to be at WMOC in Estonia right now. Even watching the videos of the sprint races makes me super-envious (and the footage of Tash's medal ceremony, a wee bit emotional).

Uni loop with the juniors. One lap warmup, then 200, 400, 600, 400, 200 with 200 float, then the rest of the 3rd lap as warmdown. Legs felt tired, for no obvious reason - unlike some people, I hadn't been rogaining on the weekend!

Calves tightened up over the weekend and I could hardly put weight on my bad foot last night, but hopefully a professional killer massage will have helped and I thought I'd go for a run before the Deep Heat (or equivalent) wore off. Around Oaklands Park & Mitchell Park, and there was just enough light to admire the almond blossom in the remnants of old orchards around Marion. Neuroma in my foot got grumpy fairly early on though - it's often this way for up to a month after a rogaine.

orienteering 44:00 [3] 4.8 km (9:10 / km)
shoes: Inov8 Oroc spikes

The Arrows went up to Lucky Hit to tape control sites for the club relays and test-run some of Simon's courses. After a couple of hours walking around all the sites with Simon & AK, I thought I'd go for a run myself, but I couldn't find my compass anywhere :( It had been with me earlier but maybe got buried under leaf litter when we were shifting logs to clear the finish chute?

Anyway, after half an hour of searching everywhere plus turning the car inside out, I ran both loops of the second course without a compass, and while incredibly slow, figure I can call this a start to Aust champs training. After all, I haven't done an orienteering course since the Tas NOLs.

It was absolutely frigid at 8am when I met AK and PC at Woodhouse to crunch through the frost discussing schools' champs assembly area layout. A bit better by the time I set out through Mt George, although my toes took a while to regain sensation. By the time I was coming back along Rangeview Drive it had turned into a glorious winter's day. Rather sad that I won't be rogaining at Mt Crawford tomorrow but probably it's for the best since I can only just declare this evil cold defunct.

After the excellent coffee & prune-and-custard slice which I had promised myself from the Organic Market café, I decided to take a leaf out of Tyson's book and go see the waterfalls in Belair. Parked above the upper waterfall and ran down the very washed out singletrack alongside the road to the trainline, then down to Echo Tunnel, up past the trickling Lower & Upper falls, inhaling the fragrance of golden wattle.

Later on in the day I kidnapped my parents and made them walk with me from the beach up to the lighthouse at Marino, then we had dinner at the café at Marino Rocks, watching the sunset.

Feeling enough on top of schools' champs stuff that I figured I had time for a run. Turned out I didn't really have the energy, though...

Funny moment when some teenaged boys came past quoting the Pauline Pantsdown Pauline Hanson spoof "I don't like it" at each other and I realised they wouldn't have been born when that was first produced!
