orienteering race (SA middle distance champs) 56:45 [3] 5.5 km (10:19 / km) +175m 8:54 / km
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon bluegreen

Bri-Glen/Wonna Creek, set by Steve Cooper, who had found the back way into the SW corner of the map where we haven't started since 2000. Good course, encompassing much of the area Simon & I used for Easter 2015, but I really struggled with running today, feeling hot & thirsty and inflexibly middle-aged getting in & out of the steep erosion gullies - partly because of the 4-hour drive (we had detoured via Dares Hill lookout & so were running a bit late, but when I'm out in this country, I never want to leave it) and also because it was about 26 degrees & sunny.

Afterwards I took my parents & Blair on an even longer detour to find the Aboriginal rock engravings by the springs out the back of Ketchowla Hill. The secret valley was guarded by a wedge-tailed eagle on each side!

running (Belair night) 34:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Kayano 21

Only Zara/Callum and myself tonight - and they had to wait for me a lot because I couldn't run & talk at the same time but kept having to stop to catch my breath. I get this way sometimes when stress catches up with me, but thankfully it's nearly the weekend.

running (Shepherds Hill) 44:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Kayano 23

After an afternoon of meetings @FMC I stopped in @Sheps and ran a sort of 3-hillls loop; moving very slowly due to fatigue but I appreciated the fresh air and admired the setting sun.

running (North Adelaide) 46:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Kayano 23

18 x 30 sec on, 1 min off, with Junior Arrows & associates around the North Adelaide loop. Seemed slightly faster today, possibly because new shoes are bouncier. Also it was really good to get away from worrying about work for a bit.

orienteering race (Mt Barker Primary sprint) 20:26 [4] 2.5 km (8:10 / km)
shoes: Asics Kayano 23

Fun sprint around the primary school, cinemas & parklands by the creek in Mt Barker, although I'd have preferred another lap of the school's intricacies to a slog through wet grass at the end, being outsprinted by Zara & Des. I was pretty tentative on wet pavement, and missed a couple of better route choices (my eyesight doesn't pick up all the mapped detail at sprint pace) but although I'd definitely like to be faster in a month's time, didn't get beaten by anyone unexpected.
11 AM

orienteering race (Cornerstone College sprin) 14:20 [4] 1.9 km (7:33 / km)
shoes: Asics Kayano 23

We moved a couple km away for the next race, which started in the school, went out the back of the hill to a bit of bushland, back into the school and then across the ovals to the creek. Again I made some dumb route choices, partly because of an uncrossable wall where I didn't identify the gap properly, but this was fun also. Guess I haven't really done that much orienteering lately!

Managed to get home and cleaned/glammed up in time to go out again to the hospice farewell function (commemorative service in the hospital's chapel followed by high tea in the hall) at 2pm. Just wish I knew whether or not I'll be able to follow the palliative care team to FMC...
