running 31:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Kayano 23

If the only criterion for a run from the front (or back) door of FMC is that the duration be at least 30 minutes, there are infinite permutations throughout the university and pine forest. If a flat run were required, there might be rather more difficulty - the first 10 min was straight uphill to Siberia (top car park at the uni). Yay for the incline of the Eden-Burnside Fault, upon which it seems counter-intuitive that a major hospital was built basically over the epicentre of the 1954 earthquake.

Not sure how much work I actually achieved today, given that the wards I am currently responsible for are at opposite ends of the hospital and the distance between them is approximately the full length of Adelaide Airport - which Susanne & Lachlan paced out at approx. 720m (when our flight to Canberra for the 2006 WRC was delayed by about 4 hours).

running hills (Morialta) 1:16:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Kayano 22

Was out the door at work bang on 5pm and got to Morialta precisely an hour later. So it was important to run for at least the same amount of time as I'd spent in the car - aided by Bridget's decision that we'd go up the northern ridgeline to Moores Rd, and then above 3rd Falls I went up to the road and came down from Pretty Corner. Legs tired on the ascent, and knees feeling it on the descent, but 'twas a nice evening for a run and I am gradually feeling a little less disoriented each day at FMC.

This eventually got rid of the headache which I'd had all day.

riding (Brownhill Creek) 1:15:00 [3] 19.5 km (3:51 / km)

This felt hard, partly because of what Juffy would call a stonking easterly (as evidenced by the fact that the CPM swoopsurfed me on the way out but not the way back) and also because Alex & I walked the stairs from Seacliff to Hallett Cove this morning, returning via the conservation park, Cove Rd and Marino lighthouse. At that time the sea was mirror-flat and ocean-blue.

swimming 35:00 [3] 1.0 km (35:00 / km)

This was just a warmup for the afternoon's activity: spending the entire 3hr minigaine dressed as a moving control, doing laps of Wynn Vale Dam which is about 1km around, changing directions whenever I felt like it, running away from fast teams (egged on by my bodyguard/photographer) and jogging on the spot so that teams with prams and small children could get the 100 points with ease, presuming that they had started out on the correct side of the lake and/or I hadn't changed my direction when they were halfway around...

I don't know when I've last enjoyed myself quite so much. Possibly this is the most fun it's possible to have with a red-and-white T shirt on! It was hilarious before the start when I was wandering through the crowd at the HH, Navlight carefully hidden and control flags in my hair, admiring all the teams' fancy dress outfits and someone said to me "Wouldn't it be funny if your fancy dress was mistaken for the roving control?". My response: "What if I am the roving control...?" One team outsmarted me though, by strolling casually around the lake, maps behind their backs, so that I thought they were just locals out for a walk until they accosted me and demanded to punch the Navlight!

So. Much. Fun. Legs tired now, wish I'd had a Garmin on.

Note

Brainnnn. Meltingggg. Partly from the new-paint-and-fittings smell in both the new hospice/rehab building & the new (sadly windowless) pharmacy office which has been fitted out for the Repat refugees - at least I managed to snaffle a corner desk - and partly because of all the little glitches which still need sorting out. Such as the following sequence of events:
a) nurses complaing that none of the medications they'd ordered had been delivered up from pharmacy;
b) the dispensary asking me to tell the nurses not to send the hard copy printouts of the drug orders down with the pharmacy delivery courier, because they will be thrown away on the assumption they are duplicates of orders faxed through already;
c) me relaying this back to the nursing staff who said "we don't have a fax machine, we didn't bring it with us from Repat!"
So this is why they'd been waiting 2 days for certain medications...

running (Belair) 1:01:22 [3]
shoes: Asics Kayano 23

Perfect evening for a run via Long Gully kiosk, up Saddle Hill Rd to the top of the park, all the way down QJD and back along the creek - with B&S, Zara/Callum, Nick plus Manu on his bike. Knees coped better with both the ascent and the descent than I had expected, possibly because I walked up & down about 16 flights of stairs today...I am either going to become much fitter at FMC, or else my knees will self-destruct.
