Try something new, they said. It'll be fun, they said. So now I am no longer a parkrun virgin. Not quite sure how I feel about that...on the one hand, I can see the attraction of its uncomplicated nature, community spirit and ease of access, but on the other hand: running the same piece of bike path 4 times in total?

This was an out-&-back in both directions on a flat/straight road alongside the RAAF base airstrip between Richmond & Windsor. I lay low when the organisers asked if there were any tourists or newbies, because I was a bit embarrassed, especially at the thought of how slowly I was likely to run - and actually my time was even worse than I had anticipated but I'm not used to running when it's 27 degrees at 8 am and with 80% relative humidity.
Km splits:
4:56 (didn't want to get beaten by a 4-year old)
5:33 (was hoping for a kick but got overtaken by 3 people in the last 600m)
So it's fair to say I died in the a$$...doubt I'd have got any below 25 min even if it were a cold & frosty morning, though, so have a lot of work to do between now and July.

We're using our wedding anniversary as an excuse to stay somewhere nicer than Penrith for once, i.e. at the Crowne Plaza resort on the outskirts of Windsor. Jogging to the parkrun venue was a good (if very sweaty) warmup but the return trip in the sun lacked pleasantness.

Night O on the golf course; lots of fun and good bearing practice. Knees were happier with the grass-to-pavement ratio, so I even enjoyed control collecting.

On the weekend G bought tickets to the Foo Fighters concert which is on tonight and while I wanted to be supportive of his spontaneity I'd spent the past few days being anxious about crowds, parking logistics and the potentially late night, so in the end we just stayed home (usually he's the one who doesn't want to go out) and I went for a ride feeling both ashamed and relieved.

To Mylor fairly directly, back via Bandicoot Trail. I enjoyed the scenic singletracks, but legs absolutely WOULD NOT MOVE on the hills :( Seemed quite warm & humid already, although the Queenslanders wouldn't have noticed. Spent the rest of the day checking twilight rogaine control sites with parents then went to Vincent's for a sneak preview of Aust long champs courses, which are looking gooood.
