orienteering (Lochiel Park SSS) 27:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Kayano 23

Sarah & I each test-ran a course for the Feb 8th event, and then checked control sites. I feel a bit bad because one of these was right near the finish of the Lochiel parkrun (I had no idea) and so I impolitely ran straight between the timekeepers and the finishers because I didn't know they were there until I came around the corner of the building...

orienteering (Marino Twilight) 37:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Nimbus 19

After a full day of family stuff because Susanne & Eleanor & Heidi flew down this morning and I took them to visit parents, minded the kidlets at O while Sus ran around the medium course, and then we swapped. My legs weren't very happy with being made to run and this was a fairly painful stagger, but the ocean views were magnificent on a lovely evening (even if back at the beach, the Darwinites were shivering with perceived cold) and quote of the day must go to Eleanor: "You can swim in the sea here, because there's no crocodiles."!

running (Belair) 45:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Kayano 23

Brain a bit fried after a long day at work (because I won't be there tomorrow) but what's not to like about being in Belair NP? Did the shortest loop fairly casually, and then half-a-dozen faster runthroughs across the main oval, but unfortunately these weren't appreciated by my hamstring.

swimming 33:00 [3] 1.0 km (33:00 / km)

Usually I'm the slowest person in the lane so just have to try to keep out of other people's way but had the awkward situation today where no less than 4 times, I came up behind people who were a bit slower still, and had to work out how to overtake them without holding up anyone behind me or interfering with oncoming traffic, and there's only so long you can tread water behind someone. On one occasion I accidentally kicked an older lady in passing (I did apologise, but she said she'd just had a knee replacement so now I feel bad). Can't wait for the pool to go back to being peacefully under-utilised, but in the meantime, can anyone enlighten me as to correct overtaking etiquette?

running (Morialta) 33:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Nimbus 19

Exclusive sojourn to First Falls (totally dry, but a little pied cormorant and a white-faced heron were enjoying what's left of the pool at the bottom) while the kookaburras laughed at me because I'd overestimated the number of others who'd be at running tonight, by 100%.

orienteering (Smiths Reef) 57:24 [3] 7.0 km (8:12 / km)
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon bluegreen

Yesterday afternoon I hopped on a plane to Melbourne, picked up a hire car at Tullamarine, and after a couple of false starts in finding my way to the Calder Fwy, headed to Castlemaine where Kate Radford and boys are staying with her parents for a couple of weeks. This morning, for Kate's birthday, she & her dad & I went for a run near Maldon on the course which Tony & Alison had set for an event there 18 months ago. It was lots of fun in lovely open forest, complete with spiderweb facials, and I tried to maintain pace & focus which worked pretty well until I caught up to Kate and briefly stopped paying attention, causing confusion on a shallow gully. All good though, and Alison brought Henry & Darcy across to meet us afterwards so we all had coffee together & explored the markets in Maldon. A bit sad to go back home this afternoon :(
