running (Belair) 50:00 [3] 8.0 km (6:15 / km)
shoes: Asics Nimbus 21

Western Belair loop with Fern, from hers, feeling rather out of condition (partly due to an afternoon of gardening) but at least it wasn't possible to overheat! Then G & I went to a circus/acrobatics show with Julie as part of the Guitars In Bars festival which made me feel even more unfit as those performers have incredible core & upper body strength.

Note

I knew the GBR girls could do it! Was so excited watching their gold-medal-winning relay race that I kinda forgot to check how the Aussies were doing, oops.

running 1:23:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Nimbus 21

Knees finally a bit happier so I followed squelchy singletracks along the rim of Sturt Gorge up to Eden Hills Fire Station (just enough daylight left to see the first golden wattle, which gladdened my heart) then headed down through Shepherds Hill. Managed to cook dinner in time to watch the pointy end of the JWOC middle final but sadly the fish didn't agree with Geoff's or my stomachs so viewing was curtailed :(

running (Shepherds Hill) 41:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Nimbus 21

Along the creek, which was colder than expected, so then I went up the hill and was rewarded by view of the city lights. Had to go to WA meeting afterwards so couldn't watch as much of JWOC long as I'd have liked.

orienteering race (Keynes Gap) 1:45:22 [3] 8.1 km (13:00 / km) +330m 10:48 / km
shoes: Inov8 Oroc spikes

Maybe shouldn't have done this today - legs still completely hammered from yesterday's massage and knees/ITB/hamstrings didn't want to go either up or down. And there was a lot of each, with the steep rocky escarpments in sharp ridgelines and green valleys channeling between them (like something out of Narnia, or at least the parts of NZ where the films of the books were made) and some slightly dubious control sites to which it was suspected the course setter hadn't actually been, as they were physical impossibilities which the person who put the controls out had to mitigate. So yeah, I walked a lot of it as my knees in particular were really painful. Enjoyed the course, I think...but an awful lot of work to be done on fitness before Oceania :(

Definitely enjoyed JWOC sprint viewing this evening. So proud of our Arrows juniors: Emily, Dante, Angus and Joanna. Very impressed by Aston's win! And rather envious because I would like so much to be orienteering in Denmark right now, as I was at this time last year.
