Note

Sooo frustrating trying to work out from the WRC results, who was actually in each team, when they were obliged to enter using stupid team names! Also trying to work out what sort of experience Zara & I might have had if we'd been entered - given the weather, possibly like the NZ 2010 debacle (and that was a year in which I'd previously trained for an 80km run, so I am waaay less fit now).

orienteering race (Bendig-O-Ringen) 1:37:31 [3] 8.2 km (11:54 / km)
shoes: Inov8 Oroc spikes

This was a fun event thanks to Neil & Julie - 4 short courses on goldmining skraplands (bottersnike territory, but it wasn't too junky) on the northern outskirts of Bendigo, with the simple premise that the time taken to travel between the last control on one map and the first control on the next map was deleted from the splits, and all 4 course times added together for the final result.

My times for each map (including time to/from first/last control):
St Justs Point - 27 min (including about 3 at a standstill trying to fight my way through a thicket of brush when I knew exactly where I was meant to be one watercourse further over)
New Argus 24 min (poor route choice right over the big mullock heap, overshot one control)
South Star 24min (maybe I should have gone straight up the massive erosion instead of around)
New St Mungo 31 min (again got caught in green and also took some very wide route choices, plus didn't see the correct way from last control to finish through school).

I was generally slow & uncoordinated because of my knees, and still a bit flat from having a cold, but this was very enjoyable orienteering (the middle two maps when combined = Virginia Hill) and the sun was shining upon Bendigo, unlike in grey Melbourne. A pity that more people hadn't come up from Melbourne though. With serious promotion, the 5-races-in-two-days format could become a premier weekend on the OV calendar!

running (Morialta) 1:26:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Nimbus 21

Deep View lookout, Central Track up to Moores Rd, around to and down from Third Falls, in the time which it took my parents to walk the flat 5km return to the base of First Falls. Surprised how many people were out walking today (I'm not certain that all of them were certain about which track they needed to take to get to where, but I thought better of offering advice to anyone). Was lovely up the top of the park with pink, red and white heath flowering and blue wrens flitting around, but I did need some rest breaks going up the besser blocks to get there!

And, with a Liberal state government, everything old is new again, and so the National Parks And Wildlife Service has been (re)launched as though it's a brand new idea...

riding 55:00 [3]

I had intended to go into work to finish some things off but it was a sunny afternoon and so instead, after house-and-garden-stuff I rode the old tramline bike path to Morphettville racecourse and back along the current tram line.

running 39:30 [3]
shoes: Asics Nimbus 21

Stiff-kneedly across to Hawthorn Oval, 6 x runthroughs on the grass, back again on a warmish pre-rain morning. Think I may actually be a bit coldy this week - presumably someone among the Hordes Of Humans breathed on me when I went to the footy with Blair last Friday (I'm not great with crowds of that size, but it was a good game).

Up past the lake, down past the playground, to Long Gully kiosk & back with Zara, hearing all about the Naracoorte rogaine and its plethora of fences.

Bridget cancelled group training because of the severe weather warning but the front had passed by the time I left work and it was incredibly foggy up through Bellevue Heights.
