orienteering (Belair) 1:05:00 [3]
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon bluegreen

3-Days of Belair Easter Day 1

Missed my nominal start time as left it rather too late in the day again after doing house and garden stuff, including enthusiastically (which is not the same as expertly) pruning so much off the bushes outside the lounge room that G said to me "if you were a hairdressing apprentice, they'd only let you sweep the floor!".

So I decided to do this course backwards in order to get through the junkier stuff before the sun set, remembering its origins as a 'green-training' course which Robin set for B&S before WOC in Estonia. I also modified it slightly in search of amenities - all the toilets in the park have signs up implying that they are closed due to COVID, but only at ovals near the main entrance do the toilet blocks even have actual front doors...

riding (Brownhill Creek) 1:04:00 [3] 19.5 km (3:17 / km)

After housework and before gardening. Suddenly everyone seems to have discovered "my" valley and there were people out walking all over the road like Brown's cows. Also they seem to have discovered Brown Hill, perhaps as a more socially-distant alternative to the Waterfall Gully-Mt Lofty 'highway', and I could see lots of little ants going up and down!

3-Days of Belair Easter Prologue.

Nice afternoon to be out in the park :) Not sure when this training course was from, but it had a corridor section first up, and I suffered an unfortunate corridor excursion due to triangulating off a non-existent termite mound...did better on the line section despite very stiff/painful knees from domestic duties.

In other news, I saw an Eastern Spinebill gathering nectar from my salvias today!

Completely brain-dead at work this week even though it's been suspiciously quiet (yes, I have read the news reports about all the people not coming unto hospital and probably just having their heart attacks etc at home) but I perked up a bit due to meeting Fern & Lexie & Zara for a run. We headed up past the lake to the trainline, down to the adventure playground (closed of course) then the others wanted to go along the creek past the railway dam because it was a nice evening. Unfortunately I had a deadline of 7.30pm OA Board meeting, (which I didn't quite make, as usual).

Note

I presume everyone got a text message from the Australian government today, telling them to stay home over Easter?

Parked at Seacliff and ran up to Marino lighthouse with the intention of watching super-moon-rise at 6:26pm, but it didn't manifest then, presumably because that time's for if the Mt Lofty Ranges weren't in the way. After 20 min I'd been around all the tracks in the Marino conservation park and still not seen the moon, so I headed back down, and finally saw it appear above suburbia about 20 min later (the world seems to be turning slower than usual, just lately...). No, it definitely wasn't pink, but some sections of the media this week seemed to think that it genuinely would be!

Anyway, the true highlight of the evening's run was the golden staircase over the ocean, created by the setting sun. And being at the beach always makes me feel like I'm on holiday - even though I grew up only 1km from the sea. Speaking of holidays, it's currently hard to believe that it's only 3 years since we were 'fleeing' from the almost-flooded Coromandel Peninsula ahead of an impending not-actually-cyclone.

running (Bellevue Heights) 50:00 [3]

Knees which have been doing far too much desk-sitting lately (now that all meetings are virtual including OSA council this evening) didn't appreciate the descent but it was totally worth it, to have first gone up the hill towards the rising full moon.

From Turners Ave down through Blackwood Forest to Frank Smith Park and Coro Primary & return, with Fern & Lexie, hearing about the difficulties of WFH while parenting (+/- teaching). I've missed Monday night runs in the hills!

running 36:49 [3]

Stiffly around the suburbs while the roast pork was cooking, after a day which was very full of house-and-garden stuff (so now I feel that I've made up for not managing to achieve any of it yesterday, and am looking forward to having 4 whole days in which to do more of it this coming weekend). Then made applesauce using the last few granny smiths from our tree :)
