swimming 34:00 [3] 1.0 km (34:00 / km)

Nice morning for it. Getting pretty annoyed at how the IOF reflections thread is incredibly male-dominated and keeps being hijacked by people who just want to air their grievances instead of getting on with the business of making the orienteering experience rewarding for everyone (then again, I guess the definition of an old-school orienteer is basically: an anally-retentive nit-picker).

running (Belair) 33:22 [3]
shoes: Asics Kayano 24

Just a short one in order not to aggravate my foot and also to get to the pub with G for dinner, so I hurried a bit and this was a couple min faster than in recent months but still nothing like the 30 min I used to be able to do for the western Belair loop.

running (Bellevue Heights) 40:29 [3]
shoes: Asics Nimbus 22

Gotta admit that I hadn't expected to get wet this evening, but it's better to be rained on tonight than during the twilight rogaine on Sat! Hope I don't slow Fern down too much on hills...

running tempo (Morialta) 49:14 [3]

The longer way up to Deep View, around to the top of First Falls then down. Foot wasn't great on the rough stuff, which it was impossible to minimise.

orienteering (Rocky Paddock) 1:14:00 [3] 7.8 km (9:29 / km) +240m 8:13 / km
shoes: Inov8 ORoc 280

The W45 entry list for Easter has put the fear of god into me so I decided to spend the public holiday on going up to Mt Crawford Forest to do some training, I mean taking my parents for a drive in the countryside.

The course I unearthed was from Arrows' training at least 10 years ago, but that didn't matter - some changes to the sections which have/haven't been felled, but since Rocky Paddock itself will apparently never be felled, it's always lovely through there, and even jumping over brashings in other sections somehow reminded me of WMOC in Denmark. Legs felt suprisingly ok at this but by the end the old stress fracture (?) in my foot, which dislikes being in O shoes, was getting annoying and it reminded me why I don't orienteer much these days.

Of course I didn't get away without spending a couple of hours chauffeuring parents via back roads through the hills (looking at areas which were burned 15 months ago) so it was after 3pm by the time I'd dropped them off and returned home myself.

orienteering (Kuitpo Forest) 40:00 [2]
shoes: Inov8 ORoc 280

I was a bit miffed at having had to pay $28 for NSW sprint champs (my club only charged $15 last weekend - and I'm sure our event wasn't only half as good - no wonder NSW clubs are apparently siting on fabled stores of gold) so decided to go and do some totally FREE orienteering (would have gone to Evalin's training yesterday also, but had to work).

Was also a bit miffed at being put in the slowest group for the relocation exercise, since this group included walkers and people who can get lost on a street O map, but it turned out to be actually quite informative seeing how other people process map-to-ground information. Sometimes I take my photographic memory for granted!

Couldn't stay around for the relay simulation exercise because I had to get to an ARC-setters' meeting, so offered to put out the tapes for it instead while others had lunch. Nearly ran out of time before their 1pm mass start as it was often quite difficult to be certain of the correct logpile, rootmound or native cherry tree, but I bailed to Piccadilly before anyone could come back and complain that I had put the tapes in the wrong place :)

Nice autumn morning for a longer run over to Mitcham, up behind Carrick Hill and Waite, then back through the suburbs - all before going to work.
