Got up at 5 am, chucked everything which I had packed last night into the car and made it to Mark's in time for us to leave there by 6:30, so we were putting out the first control at the northern end of the map right on 10 am. Then did a pleasantly scenic loop on foot in Pandappa CP with 8 controls including the mysterious planetary 101 (made more mysterious by my bearing being off, which was problematic on the next leg also and eventually my companion asked if my compass was anywhere near my phone - oops, phone in compass-hand waist pocket of daypack is bad idea), and still had enough time to put out a few more along Holder Rd on our way back to camp at Bri Glen Springs where the others were waiting for us (it was dark by then, but Mark's parents had lit an excellent campfire) and so, with Zara & Steve also having hung a dozen controls, and Mark's parents likewise - they started on Friday - we were already nearly halfway through the 75!

Highlight of the day was finding a bottle midden a couple of km away from an old farmhouse; there were all sizes and shapes and vintages and I am always fascinated by patent medicine bottles, but only souvenired one.

Sad to be missing out on racing on a brand-new sand dune map at Broulee this weekend, but the Deceptive Lands are calling...

By the time I'd waited half an hour for Z to arrive, was cold and unmotivated. Did notice that she & Fern were both wearing thermals, which made me think that I'll need to store gloves in the car again along with my headlamp - but first I'll need to pack them for this weekend's camping.

Yesterday afternoon I discovered the pop-up coffee stall at the new Flinders Railway Station and noted that there is in fact a new bike path alongside the train extension over South Rd/Southern Expressway and Sturt Rd. So tonight I took that bike path, and also the draft O map, over to Mitchell Park to check out a few things for WA's potential event there in August (the suburb is not as obviously housing trust as it used to be, and there are a few good little parks and reserves, but sadly no public toilets), and also discovered that at the Uni* end of the train line is an identical statue of Matthew Flinders and his cat Trim, to the one on the foreshore in Port Lincoln.

*apart from the nearly 1km walk uphill to the actual university!

Sort-of fartlek along the river to the weir and back, in that we did intervals between (most of) the bridges and then regrouped by jogging back to the last person. Very fatigued tonight, but then when am I not?

Singletracks headtorch run before online WA meeting - it gets dark so early already :(

We've ended up with just over 300 competitors entered for the ARC (Jim, it's not too late...) and today I received a joyful email from the landowner to say that there had been about an inch of rain over the weekend at the HH site!

Spent the morning on housework and the afternoon on hosting a rogaine-setters' meeting so finally got out for a suburban jog after dark.
