orienteering (Wonna Creek) 1:20:00 [3] 6.0 km (13:20 / km)
shoes: Inov8 ORoc 280

Didn't have heaps to do this morning apart from assisting with novice tips & tricks and then of course the 1145 briefing after which the crowd of rogainers dispersed magically and then there was nobody around apart from the landowners who'd come to see the mass start. We offered them a cup of tea (once the urn had finally boiled - it needed my dad there to keep an eye on it) and all stood around chatting and suddenly it was 3pm...

I'd brought a few O maps with the intention of going for a run but by the time I'd had lunch and taped my ankles and got across to the start from Easter 2015 it was after 4pm and the shadows getting long, so with the sun in my eyes it was fairly slow going and then after the sun set I had trouble reading the map, but still enjoyed what had been the M45 course. Came back to look over the 8hr event's flght plans and was a bit horrified at how ambitious some teams had been, and feared that we might be doing searches in the darkness for missing teams but in fact, although some had to curtail their chosen route, none were more than about 15 min late back.

The Goyder Council mayor turned up in time for the 8hr's presentations and we were obliged to confess that we'd appropriated the title of our event from the local history book written by his mother!

There's a lookout on a hill on the north side of Peterborough (Government Rd leads to the water tanks) so I ran up there this morning, did a lap of the nice little bushland reserve, then back again. Today the last 4 controls went out then after Geoff arrived at camp, a convoy of trailers with IBCs headed across to the farm whose owners had generously allowed us to get water from their tank, and we took the northeasternmost water drop out bush before sunset before coming back to the HH for dinner around the campfire with a goodly amount of people (including competitors, not all volunteers) there already. G & I headed back to the caravan park to sleep though because tomorrow night we will be doing the 2am safety patrol...

Squeezed a suburban jog in between housework and packing. Still don't really feel that it's an Aust Champs if the Victorians can't come, but the event must go on, so Mark & I walked a pleasant loop to put out 3 controls this afternoon and then checked out the amazing marquee (hired) and fire pit at the HH site before heading to accommodation with Zara & Steve @Peterborough with the rising moon behind us.

Included 4 x 800 on the uni loop, but I was very breathless for these, presumably because of this week's blood loss.

Trundled up the hill on weary legs. Came back down tasting fumes from the vehicles on Shepherds Hill Rd, even though there wasn't that much traffic. Went home to make (non-rhubarb) pizza, which was the highlight of the day. Afterwards spent $1300 on flights/accommodation/car hire for myself & G for 24hrs in Canberra next week.

To parents' via the bike path around the south side of the airport, then along the coast from Glenelg North. G met me at theirs and we took my folks for lunch at Smiling Samoyed Brewery @Myponga; good food but our 4 orders were: a starter, a salad, a main and a dessert and they came out in that sequence even though I'd tried to explain that these were all to be eaten at the same time - so I was waiting quite a while for my rhubarb crumble pizza. (Also, live covers being performed too loudly in a tin shed with bad acoustics = white noise.) Short walk along the reservoir foreshore afterwards seemed like the popular thing to do on a sunny autumn afternoon.

Needed some fresh air after the winding roads down to and back up from Myponga Beach so ran home from parents'. This is never a particularly exciting route (especially through the housing trust area), but more pleasant now than at the height of summer.
