Supposed to have gone rogaining at Yacka with Fern but after watching the forecast temp creep up all week we canned the idea last night. Current Sat forecast 39c for Pt Pirie and 37c Clare, also windy with dust, pollen count 240! Didn't know the scale goes that high? Trailblazer organisers are lucky their event was last weekend and not this; with today's firebans it would have had to have been cancelled.
So a 7am run at Black Hill CP instead with Simon, John, Fern & Tyson. A good excuse to try the trail shoes I bought yesterday, in preparation for SW track in Tassie in Feb. Parked on Addison Ave, ran up Addison and then up a foot track on a spur directly east from the park entrance, to the Top track and summit. The trig point had been removed, much to Tyson's disgust (pick the surveyor). Back down the 4wd Quarry track which has been re-gridded with concrete and wire mesh, to Montecute Rd and past Vanessa's house, Foxfield oval and to the car. Ok temp, as thin cloud and a bit of wind. Shoes okish, feet a bit sore underneath. Sole feels harder than I'm accustomed to.
Had worked up a Splice appetite by then so headed to Newton Mall but were disappointed to find that neither Coles nor Woolies stocked them. Had to settle for 8 Frosty Fruits at $5.49/box, despite Simon trying to pursuade us that 30 Splits for $9.99 was a better buy. Frosty Fruit nutritional trivia: 25 Frosty Fruits provides the daily recommended energy intake, although you have already had the entire recommended daily sugar intake after 5 of them. Energy from 3 Frosty Fruits = 1x 600ml coke Energy, both primarliy sugar. Therefore Simon has just achieved his entire daily intake of sugar after 2 Frosty Fruits and one coke, all by 9.30am.
