Running (street O) 52:00 [3]
slept:6.0

With Lachlan getting up at quarter to 6 to catch the plane to Alice I figured there was no excuse for not getting to Orienteering early. Mindil Beach carpark start, with the long course heading north up through the school and around the lakey thing near the trailer boat club, then east through the streets and south through Parap, coming into the Botanic Gardens and then ducking across to the golfcourse before north again to the finish. Tried to just jog. Started on map memory at about number 5, as it seemed like I had a lot of time on my hands without much thinking to do! Not that map memory makes for much 'thinking' exactly...

Tried to look unobtrusive crossing the golfcourse and then stick to the forested bit at the edge. Controls all ok to find today:)

Cycling (commute) 30:00 [3]

To and from O and the supermarket, and picking up the short course by bike.

Running (short intervals) 33:02 [3]
slept:8.0 shoes: Asics Gel1140

10 mins of short ints/recovery, 18-20sec on/20 sec off, up and down in the Termite Mounds carpark. Felt unco to begin as ages since I've done any fast stuff but it got a bit better after the first few. Slow though, think it was only 80m. Warmup 12.21, warmdown 10.35.

Running (running with map) 49:24 [3]
slept:8.0 shoes: AirZoomVomero3+

Public holiday:). Running on the Botanic Gardens loop (approx 2.9k) with o-maps from elsewhere with courses drawn on....I read the routes out aloud to Lach. Did two laps, the first was somewhere in Greenland (15.17/HR ave 141), the second Canada (15.34/HR ave 148) with a couple of minutes break between. Tried to speed map reading up on the second lap but had to stop near the end and make a detour around a stripey green carpet python that wouldn't move off the track (it was pretty), otherwise times similar. Ran out of time to do more, had to go to NT champs meeting.

Warmup 10.02, warmdown 8.29 (HR ave 141). New HR monitor, still getting the hang of the buttons.

Cycling (commute) 30:00 [3]

To East Point area and back.

Running (terrain) 50:00 [3]
shoes: AirZoomVomero3+

Dry season is here! I didn't wake up hot in the night or have to get up and turn the fan up a notch:) A nice morning, a bit cloudy. Lach thought there was a funrun out East Point way so we got up earlyish and went out for a look as we figured it would start at maybe 8am. No funrunners when we got there, just a small group doing a triathlon near Lake Alexandra, so left the bikes near the loo and went for a run on the East Point map we had brought with.

Ran out to the mangrove boardwalk to see what low tide looked like, then along the indistinct track (marked with orange tape) along the mangrove/forest interface to the rocks at East point proper, then on the rocks to the carpark area, explored the gun fortress, went down to the lower carpark for a drink but the fountain wasn't working, then into the monsoon forest to check out some point features and eventually back to the loos once we were sick of running around and dodging the scratchy plants. The monsoon forest is super cool....such a continental Europe feel with a leafy forest floor and ok vis. Unfortunately some trees/shrubs with spiney bits though!

Feeling heeeaaaps better than a week ago thankfully.

Note

Start of week 2 of the Iron challenge. Got three stickers on my chart last week:). Average for last week was about 14mg/day, not bad maybe as in the field I haven't much control over the food. Have some tricks up my sleeve for this coming week....I want more stickers on my chart!
