Orienteering warm up/down 15:00 [1]
Probably did about 15mins of jogging around the park a bit & did some drills - the usual
Orienteering race 6:38 [5] *** 1.18 km (5:37 / km)
shoes: Trainers
I don't know how to get maps on here but the courses were really good fun especially the final.
Did Qualification C first - Bit confusing first time in the maze & I messed up no. 9 because it was right next to 8 & I didn't notice it on the map at first. Not too bad though.
Orienteering race 6:14 [5] *** 1.14 km (5:28 / km)
shoes: Trainers
Qualification B - my best one of the 3. Much smoother throught the maze. According to the garmin my best speed was 3.4min/km which is alright :)
Orienteering race 7:35 [5] *** 1.37 km (5:32 / km)
shoes: Trainers
Qualification A - bit of a disaster! Got on the wrong side of the fence at no. 5 so ran all the way back round & lost about 15sec. Was tired too & walked a bit...oops!
Orienteering race 14:40 [5] *** 2.2 km (6:40 / km)
shoes: Trainers
Semi Final B - AAAA
Basically was far too slow!! my stomach gave up on me just after the 2nd river crossing & I had to kind of bend over & battle through - not very nice.
I loved the bit in the maze - I think they should build a giant one & have the whole course in it :) Ultrasprint is only really ultrasprint in this part the rest was like a normal sprint race but with shorter legs & lots more of them! The control in the middle of the river was very cool & good for spectating.
I found the wood part easier this year having been there last time around.
I was dissappointed to come 5th (only top 4 go to final) but relieved because I am way too unfit to have run another course & to make a fool of myself by being ages behind the other women!!
Overall very very fun (one of my fave races of the year) but would have been more so had I been a bit more competitive. Everyone should try this at least once.
[ Although not nearly as hard as the Uppsala ultrasprint in the wood/storm/fancy dress!! where the "giant boulders" were just tiny stones :D ]
