Orienteering 1:00:00 [2]

Night training at Hoias. 3.5km course on a normal map.Tricky stuff but managed to just about hold it together and found all the controls, albeit slowly. Strava says 48' moving time! No big misses, but a lot of smaller ones. Great for improving confidence in compass work. Several times was just about to lose self-belief when the control popped up.

Running intervals 28:00 [5]

7 x 3'+1' on the lyseloype out to Hoias. Gradual incline with a few short steep banks. Nice again today, much milder and just a few patches of ice to watch out for. Legs not too bad and no real DOMS effects from Monday.

Running 44:00 [3]

~12' w-u, then the rest jogging back from Hoias. Quite a long way, but probably works best with the intervals like this.

Running 30:00 [3]

With J out by the lyseloype to Ekelimoen then back by Lerdalsveien. Mingin day. Snow gone, but still a few bits of ice lurking. Will be lethal if it freezes now. Not feeling too bad after last night, but decided it wasn't a day for intervals.

Running 52:00 [3]

With J from the house, exploring more paths and tracks to the east, ending up over at the road in to Hoias. Then back by different route almost to Ekelimoen and back over Uvaas again. Fun. Endless opportunities and going to take a while to get to know all these wee paths. Could do with my icebugs - dobs are a must, but O shoes are somewhat lacking in cushioning.

Running 13:00 [3]

Run to Strupe to gym session.
Lift home. Would have been rude to turn down such a kind offer from my neighbours...

Strength and conditioning 1:00:00 [3]

Granny gym. Ha ha. Led by EJ and no different from the earlier session in the evening, except that there were lots of horribly capable ladies showing up my incompetence! Think I might know about this for the next few days.

Running 25:00 [3]

Shortened version of Friday's run towards Venaas, then back over Uvaas. Really icy out there now, but getting used to wearing a bit more kit.
Relaxed morning wandering round the festning and environs. Gorgeous winters day.

Orienteering race 53:00 [4]

HDNC #2 at Isebakketjern, kort.
Really cold morning, -5C or so. Most of w-u was done standing by the fire at assembly. Was so cold heading off from the start that my eyes were watering and I had difficulty reading the map. Fingers were also freezing despite wearing running gloves. Found a decent line using the western path route to 1. 2 was a long leg across the grain of the land with lots of crags etc. Wasn't too sure how to tackle it, so very hesitant, but also switched off from looking at my compass early in the leg, hit the wrong path and headed through 90 deg for a way. Once corrected the rest of the leg was ok, and indeed the rest of the course went to plan too. Felt on edge the whole time, and was so happy when I would see a trail through the frost / snow near the controls. Got a real buzz from the race. Very glad I entered the "kort" 4.5km rather than "mellom" 7.9km though. Not quite sure where the forest reminded me of - a bit "different".

Running 42:00 [3]

With J from Opalveien out to Venaas, Eikelimoen and back over the top of Ulvaas. Easy pace, feeling wappit. Nice though - white and crispy with clear blue skies.
