From Inverbervie south along the coast through Gourdon, Johnshaven, and as far as the caravan park at bottom of Den of Finella. Gorgeous sunny morning, lots of birds including 10 heron in one field. From caravan park headed up the road and then ventured into the Den of Finella - an amazing deep hidden gorge. Stopped to explore along the river bed and got to a point where it narrows to ~1m and the water was too deep to wade. After much deliberation couldn't resist exploring further so left my pack, put my phone (camera) under my hat, and swam through the gap beneath the viaduct. Had read of a waterfall beyond here, but it wasn't visible and I was going to get extremely cold very quickly, so took a couple of photos before swimming back again. Retraced steps before scrambling up and along the gorge towards the road bridge where I got a view of the waterfall from above - shame I hadn't explored further as looked v impressive. From there I was returning to Inverbervie via an old road along the hillside above the A92. There was an inauspicious start through someone's garden (lots of discouraging signs) and then badly overgrown for the next 0.5km, but after that it improved. A few other overgrown bits later on were more easily avoided through stubble fields etc. Stopped to have a wee look at Benholm church but didn't risk heading down to the mill / cafe. Then a steady climb to the top of Gourdon hill before dropping into Inverbervie. Had thought the return might be a bit dull, but was really quite enjoyable. Nice to explore new territory.
