Running warm up/down 5:00 [2]

Not long enough to get my head in gear.

Orienteering race 1:08:00 [4] 8.3 km (8:12 / km) +80m 7:49 / km

Loch Vaa blue course. Set off too hard and missed most of the first 6 controls. Tried to get my act together but still messed up 6 and did a massive headless chicken at 8. Then I did stop and give myself a talking too. Salvaged something from the rest of the race in terms of more controlled orienteering. This was Tech 1 of 10. The other 9 are definitely needed.
Got quite badly distracted when I tried to use the magnifier. Can see the map pretty ok in daylight so should maybe just forget it for now. Either that or need some serious practice with it.
Physically think I’m going ok at the moment - maybe part of the problem today.

From Dinnet cp a-c round Loch Kinord to BoV cp, up Cnoc Dubh, back down the other track and on round LK. Legs a bit heavy but pleased that I managed to keep a steady pace going. Left knee complaining a bit after the CD descent, but not a major problem.

Day at Glenshee with E. Conditions nae bad and a gorgeous blue sky day. Knees held up fine, quads sore. Fun!

Running 31:00 [3] 4.8 km (6:27 / km) +50m 6:08 / km

Easy with J round Bellwood. Knees feeling quite creaky after yesterday and felt I was changing my gait to compensate. Legs felt ok otherwise.

Wednesday Feb 7 #

Ski Touring 3:00:00 [3] 14.5 km (12:25 / km) +680m 10:03 / km

Got an offer of a day ski touring in the hills with some folk who knew what they were doing, so seemed a shame to turn it down... Plan was for 3 of the west Drumochter munros. Early start and looking great on the way there, but cloud just starting to come over as we headed off. Walked in 1.5km along the track with the skis before finding enough snow to get going. Then headed up onto A'Mharconaich. Steady climb, one quite steep section but nothing too tricky. By the time we summited the weather was closing in and we agreed a plan B if conditions didn't improve. Easy descent to the col towards Ben Udlamain, although light was already getting pretty flat. There were still a few glimmers of sun so we bashed on climbing up the fenceline, but visibility gradually decreased, snow flurries more persistent and wind getting up. Eventually decided on plan B to retrace our steps back to the col and descend by the gully. This turned out to be a bit interesting as we really couldn't see the lie of the land at all. Can't say I really enjoyed this section with my limited descending skills and general lack of confidence, but eventually we reached a broader spur with some nice snow and I was able to relax a bit. All good back from there.
Great to get out with DB and SH with their excellent experience and good for AB to be benefiting from it too. Out for 5h total.

Aboyne Castle. Small amount of slush still on open section, not really a problem but wetness made it slow. Lots of vehicles today. Felt like I was skiing quite smooth and more relaxed. Usual mix of DS on the way out and KDP / DP on return. Can't face trying to do more laps than this.

Joined in w-u and drills with DR, then the first couple of fartlek sprints before turning round to jog back.

To start of intervals on railway and back

Running intervals 30:00 [5] 4.4 km (6:49 / km) +30m 6:36 / km

5x4'+2' on the railway and out to old cowp. Solid.
