Running warm up/down 10:00 [2]

Orienteering race 1:23:00 [4] 8.9 km (9:20 / km) +280m 8:03 / km

Shooting Greens brown course. Tech 10 #4 aiming for smooth clean run. Pretty successful with the aim. Kept v good map contact throughout and just a couple of wobbles in the circle. Managed fine without magnifier - only issue was mis-reading 2 of the crags as boulders.
Nicely planned and enjoyed it.
Much happier with that.

X-country skiing 1:05:00 [3] 10.0 km (6:30 / km) +240m 5:48 / km

Cross-country ski track at the Lecht prepped for Winter Games. A bit Scottish and rough around the edges... icy first thing, but improved with the sun on it later until it started getting a bit porridgey. Classic laps, trying to work the hill. Seemed to be awfully tired for the little I did.

X-country skiing 15:00 [3]

Bits and bobs on skate skis too. Was meant to be instructing a skate lesson but (probably thankfully) wasn't needed as people didn't turn up. Helped with a classic session later, but this mostly involved picking up kids and trying to get them to bend their knees.

Running 17:30 [3] 2.9 km (6:02 / km)

Testing out maprun course round Aboyne school grounds and Lady wood. Had to stop and move a few metres for a few controls to register, but basically worked fine.

Friday Feb 16 #

Running 58:00 [3] 7.8 km (7:26 / km) +250m 6:25 / km

With J up the Fungle to the Guard then on to the top of Craigendinnie. Off the back by the mtb track all the way down to the road and back through the strip of woodland along the river bank. Feeling tired and good to have some company. Found a cool snow buddha at the Seat.

11 AM

X-country skiing 20:00 [4] 2.5 km (8:00 / km)

Bit of a ski faff fail... not enough snow low down so headed up Glen Muick. Lots of faff with cars, then blowing a hooley and short of time. Ended up doing 10 x reps through the upper cp, working quite hard up and into the wind on the way out and KDP back.
7 PM

Running 50:00 [3] 7.2 km (6:57 / km) +180m 6:10 / km

Reccie of the Potties night race route with DR. Nice night and good company. Feeling better for it.

Running 28:00 [3] 4.2 km (6:40 / km) +110m 5:54 / km

Didn't really feel up for DNC after a long drive home in the snow, so went for a feel-good jog round the woods with J instead. Tried to work the hills to save myself from dropping into bottom gear.

Tuesday Feb 13 #

Orienteering 40:00 [3] 3.8 km (10:32 / km) +100m 9:18 / km

Airds Park. Tech 10 #3. Round a course from Nov ScotJOS w/e, collecting controls at the same time. No magnifier today and was fine navigationally. But the terrain was wet, so so wet and so so muddy underneath a few cm of wet snow - yurgh :-(
Decided we didn't really fancy a second session for some reason.

Monday Feb 12 #

Running warm up/down 25:00 [2] 2.6 km (9:37 / km) +100m 8:04 / km

Jog up to mast on Arisaig map and back down to farm again after tech session.

Orienteering 1:05:00 [3] 6.0 km (10:50 / km) +250m 8:58 / km

Tech 10 #2. Arisaig. A few cms of snow on the ground. Blustery / sleety showers coming and going with some sun in between. Started with ~1.5km line course, then a control pick. 1:15,000 map so used the magnifier throughout and kept really close map contact. Map is still good and felt that I had spiked everything. Was looking forward to over-laying trace on map afterwards, but unfortunately watch ran out of battery and seemed to wipe everything from memory at the same time. Got quite full-on for a while in the middle when the snow set in and visibility dropped, but by the time I was coming back to the last couple of controls the sun was out and there was a stunning view out over the isles. Big smiles, great session.

Update - trace reappeared on download. Pretty pleased with line. Got on wrong knoll at far end of control pick, but otherwise spot on.
