Morven from Tullich, up the E Crannach path and then a direct ascent of the south face. Bottom section was a mix of running water and slush, then we progressively got into deeper snow wading as we got higher. Cloud was down on the main massif too, which made everything seem twice as big. Very jealous of the hundreds of mountain hare that had skipped straight up the slope without even breaking crust. Briefly saw a few of them laughing at us on the plateau where they were having a party, but they soon disappeared into the mist again. Fox prints and a flash glimpse of the beast itself lower down - there might be one or two less hares laughing tonight. J did the effort on breaking trail, but it still felt tough enough following up behind, wading up to our knees in places. From the top we bailed out by the familiar east shoulder to pick up the bigger landy tracks further down. Mostly much easier going, but still physical enough.
Scary how your local hill can turn into a serious mountaineering expedition overnight; need to start carrying more kit for these trips out. Feet got exceptionally cold despite sealskinz socks - not quite sure what more I could have done about that. All in all a useful winter awakener.
Running felt hard today too, and not just cos of the snow. Back feels stiff which I think is part of the problem.
