Home from GoD via the south side of the Dee and Sluie. Actually felt quite good once I got going, through until Potties or so. Love the riverside stretch and used to enjoy doing tempo sessions along there. Could have come straight back by the DW, but decided to push myself that bit extra. Last couple of km felt tough.

Stretching 10:00 [1]

Tight muscles. Couldn't do quad stretch without hurting knee so left it.

Feeling a bit wappit.

The Buck with J from Lumsden side. Feeling really sluggish on the climb. Got crazy windy higher up and pretty bitter trying to run into it - could have done with another layer. Enjoyed the descent rather more with the wind behind us! Did a loop similar to this a few times 12+ years ago, but really couldn’t remember any of it. Nice for a change.

Pleasant jog along the river bank in the dark after we got home. Been a fun few days but good to get a bit of solo time to clear the head too.

Note

Had a good few days back to back, so stayed back with the Baxter boys while others went off to bike or run the coffin road. Took the boys for a bit of a walk / map reading practice round a MapRun course in the grounds of Applecross house. Nice spot with some lovely wee paths.

Wouldn’t be appropriate to start the next decade without doing something a bit mad, so went for a loony dook in the sea with KH x2. Parking was 750m from the water and there was a howling gale so it was a fairly major sprint effort just to get down there. Quick submersion before legging it back to the van before hypothermia set in.

Running 3:00:00 [2] 16.68 km (10:47 / km) +444m 9:31 / km
ahr:110 max:166

Walk from the Bealach na Ba our to the high point of Sgurr na with everyone (18 plus 4 dogs). Then split in various directions and ended up running back to Hartfield with J via the Carn Dearg ridge. Cloud down at start but gradually cleared with some ace Brocken spectre and atmospheric views before turning into a great day. Pretty cold in the wind walking, but warmed up easily once we got running. Early part of the Carn Dearg section was unbelievably brutal rocky terrain reminiscent of parts of Norway and SR, BS and E thought better and turned back to run down the road. Going improved a bit later on but was still a loooong 16km. Awesome day!

Benn Liath Mhor and Sgorr Ruadh from Achnashellach with J. Looking a bit mixed weather wise and by the time we got onto the ridge the wind was vicious. This was soon followed by hail and snow so there wasn’t much hanging about on the tops. It cleared out again to get some views before the climb onto the second top. From there I thought we’d be back in an hour or so, but the terrain was quite brutal with some fantastic rock slabs and it all took a bit longer than expected. Back with a wee bit of light to spare but wouldn’t have wanted to be out much later. Lovely hills and a good day out.
