Note
(rest day)

Whiplash style injuries in back and neck. Sore. Gently trying to stretch and mobilise everything. Wandered over to the ski run to watch and take a few pics.

Adventures in Auchenhove. Lots more snow at home now and still coming down, so changed plans to ski from home rather than venture out. Headed out west along the DW to Bodomend (thin but slidey enough) then climbed up towards Mortlich and within no time was wading through knee deep stuff. Decided I was in need of a wee adventure so continued on up onto Mortlich itself. Quite a battle, but once on top didn't fancy going back the same way so headed on out towards Craiglich (still with a skyline at the back of my mind). Contemplated dropping into Coull (sensible option) but some inner stupidy made me keep battling on outwards until I reached the col below Craiglich. Was managing something like 25'/km through this stuff. Finally decided that Craiglich was going to be a wade too far so headed down through fields towards the back road round the Dess bowl in the hopes that I could ski it back. Turned out that really wasn't looking good though, so ploughed on down through the fields instead. They would actually have been ok if it wasn't for all the gate and fence crossings - painfully hard work and tedious on skis in knee deep snow. Water skied past the lost loch of Auchlossan before making my way into the back end of DAP and over the top. Stopped to chat to the skiers (inc E) on the ski run and then home - except that I crashed at the bottom of the last hill 100m out, caught by a rock. Hit my head and rolled forward straining and crunching my neck and upper back. Nae so good :-( Would have been a fun type 2 adventure without that bit, but feeling a tad sorry for myself now.

All turned wet and yucky today. But given how much fun I’d had yesterday and how slidey it was I figured it was worth another go. Headed out to the fields. First loop was a bit slow but second and third much better. Only a couple of puddles:-) Felt like more effort than my HR suggested.

DW ski reps! 5 x from the track bend at end of the open heading east as far as road crossing and back the same way. Heavy snow and v thin under trees, but surprisingly slidey all the same! Turned back at the road as it was getting even wetter lower down, but ended up as quite a nice wee effort session with a decent climb back over on each rep. Fun! Felt quie tired after so must have been doing some work, although HR only seems to have got up to any level in the second half, if readings are to be believed?

Note

Had a bad calf seizure last night after jumping out of bed to get some extra bedding. V tender and lumpy this morning but working on it regularly with the massage gun and it’s gradually easing off. Hopefully no long term damage.

Craiglich out and back from forestry track end on Cross Rds road. Following in the tracks of J, E and E earlier, except that the tracks were largely blown in over most of it! Sticky snow early on was clinging to the skis. Did a rewax and it seemed to improve once out to the open. V deep snow on the final climb up Craiglich and an interesting uncontrolled descent with a few snow wallow splatters. Fairly dark by that point and then a blatter of snow / hail came in and I really couldn’t see a thing. Almost took a wrong turning but caught myself in time. Interesting. Otherwise nice skiing back down and definitely gaining benefit from the earlier skiers having compacted the snow. Fun mini adventure:-)

Long hills on snowy / icy paths in the woods. 4 x ~6' reps on different climbs. Just about getting enough grip in dobbs with the snow cover.
Really enjoyed the effort today - love a good hill session when I'm up for it :-)

From Lochnagar distillery road end out to Bovaglie (CP49 #27) then on out towards Glen Muick with J and E. Track in lovely condition, almost worthy of track skis. Really enjoyed this - had forgotten how much fun x-c can be in nice snow! Beaut evening too - cold, crisp, buff freezing weather :-)
