Tempo Run tempo 1:05:00 [4] 12.0 km (5:25 / km)

A good running club session with Justin and Graham. We went up The Byes to Sidford, then further up the valley to Harcombe. From there we climbed up to the Britannia, and then headed to the coast. Then back along the coast path. It was a beautiful summer evening with stunning views all over the place - with the view from Salcombe Hill across Lyme Bay looking especially awesome! :-)

Steady Run 59:00 [3] 10.5 km (5:37 / km)
shoes: Saucony Excursion

Monday running club session from Mutters Moor. Chris was meant to be leading the run, but didn't turn up, so I ended up leading the run with about 30 seconds warning because I was the only other person there who knows the way around!! I took us into the woods on the east side of the slope, down to the golf course, then up to Keebles Seat. From there we went backwards along part of the time trial route before appearing on the top of the western slope. Then out to the seat with the view along the coast and Otter Valley (Cracking view as always!), before heading out to the coast to enjoy the views there too. For a run that was made up completely on the spot, the timing was amazing!

After the run, as it was a really nice summer evening, we had Colin's 65th birthday party on the picnic benches......plenty of cake and champagne!! :-)

Hashing tempo 55:00 [4] 10.0 km (5:30 / km)

A City of Exeter Hash run from White Cross. It was a slightly strange trail but, nevertheless, there was plenty of good, fast running and a couple of tough climbs. Nice and warm again, with cracking views of Sidmouth and the coast from the top of Fire Beacon.
12 PM

Steady Run 25:00 [3] 5.0 km (5:00 / km)

Ran through 'My Forest' back to my parents house after the hash.

Steady Run 58:00 [3] 10.0 km (5:48 / km)
shoes: Saucony Excursion

A good steady run with SRC from White Bridge near Budleigh. We went straight to the coast and along the coast path to Stantyway Farm. Then we cut in land to the River Otter, and went back to the cars on the river path. A nice run on another summer day - awesome views on the coast! :-)

Stretching/Core Stability 10:00 [1]

Stretching and sunbathing at the same time!! :-)

Hashing tempo 55:00 [4] 11.0 km (5:00 / km)
shoes: Saucony Excursion

A really good hash in Ashclyst Forest on what was, for the southerners in the pack, a warm night but, for a couple of the northerners, it was just too much! It was only 25 degrees centigrade....whats the matter with them?!....hot is when it gets to 30 or more!

There were plenty of good long climbs on the trail, but forest was surprisingly dry (given that Ashclyst is 'always muddy'!), which made the running easier. It turned into a good race between Porky, PDQ and me towards the end. Good stuff!! :-)

Steady Run 1:09:00 [3] 12.5 km (5:31 / km)
shoes: Saucony Excursion

A really nice running club session an another fantastic summer warm summer evening. The 'tough' group was just me, Tim and Justin - so it was a nice steady pace without much stopping. We went up Bickwell Valley to Keebles Seat on Mutters Moor, when down into the Otter Valley, before using Passaford Lane for the epic climb back onto Mutters Moor. The over the Moor to the coast and back along the coastal path. Awesome views again....just confirming East Devon's status as one of the very best places in the world to run!!

Steady Run 58:00 [3] 10.0 km (5:48 / km)
shoes: Saucony Excursion

An awesome run with running club from Salcombe Hill. We went straight to the coast from the cars and east along the coast to Dunscombe. Then back on an in land route. It was a fairly social pace, but that didn't matter on such a nice summer evening with epic views along the coast to enjoy.....best place in the world to run when it looks like it did tonight! :-)

Warm up stuff for a Devon event at Killerton.

Orienteering race 40:49 [5] *** 6.3 km (6:29 / km) +290m 5:16 / km
spiked:22/22c shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw 333

Brown course - short courses today....more of a middle race really. Still, it was a glorious hot summer day and I was pretty much able to breathe the whole way around - helpful! Ran well and spiked all the controls. Flowed well, especially in the quarry area on the northern part of the map - where you always have to be careful, no matter how many times you've run on the area before! A good run on a nice day! :-)
12 PM

Orienteering 50:00 [2] 4.0 km (12:30 / km) +180m 10:12 / km

Shadowing James from TBGS around his first Green Course. He did well, and didn't need to too much assistance. Although fairly slow (but fast for an M14 on his first TD5 course, if you see what I mean), so more of a long warm down for me!

Spent all day at a work conference at the Eden Project, which was awesome - especially as we got part of the afternoon to look around the biomes for free! Awesome free lunch too! :-) Was planning to rest anyway to give the antibiotics time to kick in.

Hashing 1:00:00 [3] 10.0 km (6:00 / km)

Running the hash. Again, not going anywhere fast, so had time to enjoy the awesome views from the common on a fantastic summer evening.

Steady Run 30:00 [2] 4.0 km (7:30 / km)

Very easy running / power walking with Lilo Lil to help her plan her hash for tomorrow evening. By her own admission, she is 'directionally challenged' - so she'd have never have found her way back if I'd decided to run off!!

A really nice run with SRC from Otterton on a fantastic summer evening. Chris wasn't there, so I ended up leading the run. I took us up the eastern side of the river for a bit, then down the other side of the river for a couple of K's. Then over the river and over to the coast - awesome views!! Along the coast to Ladram Bay and then through the footpaths back to Otterton. Nice run and, thankfully, I hardly coughed at all! :-)

Warm up/down 20:00 [3] 3.0 km (6:40 / km)
shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw 333

It is another glorious summer day and, as predicted, I couldn't resist going to the Kerno event at Inny Foot, on the Devon/Cornwall Border. I did a long warm up as a 'fitness test' for my breathing.....a bit of coughing, but nothing too bad, so I though I may as well enter the Brown!
12 PM

Orienteering race 1:06:13 [5] *** 9.0 km (7:21 / km) +335m 6:12 / km
spiked:25/26c shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw 333

Cocked up number one because, despite my warm up, I started to cough like crazy just after crossing the start line!, so I was concentrating on making sure I didn't die rather then finding the control! Still, I only lost 30 seconds or so, and managed to clear my lungs in the process! - so it was time well sent, and normal service resumed after that! After number two the course went steeply down hill right down to the River Tamar, before going part way back up and then down again! Then there was a really nice section in the fairly flat natural forest by the river - lots of point features in here, so compass work is key, and mine was spot on! :-) Then we started the long climb back up to the car park, which triggered another coughing fit - as a consequence, I couldn't run much of the climb, so I probably lost a good couple of minutes on the long leg up the hill. The final few controls were through some really minging low visibility green forest, so it was slow and, therefore, the fact that I was finding it hard to breathe was less significant! A good run in the circumstances.
1 PM

Warm up/down 10:00 [1] 1.0 km (10:00 / km)
shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw 333

Warm down run/walk with James and a couple of the other TBGS lads. Then off to the tea tent for copious amounts of free tea and cake, whilst having a good social, sun bathing, and enjoying the amazing views from the car park towards Kit Hill and Bodmin Moor! :-)

Saw a map from the British Champs at the tea tent - glad I didn't bother to make the trip all the way up there for that.....just as I remembered, it didn't look like anything special - a giant bog on a massive hill, with a load of big features to make the navigation nice and simple!!

Feeling a bit better today, which is good - I think the glorious warm summer weather is helping. So I'll probably not be able to resist trying to run at the Kerno event tomorrow!

Hashing 50:00 [3] 9.0 km (5:33 / km)

Felt better today - i.e. I could breathe, and was only coughing a bit so, as it was a glorious summer evening, I couldn't resist a gentle jog around the hash in Harpford Woods. Felt much better than last night, and only coughed a bit - so things are looking up, even if I didn't work hard at all.

Steady Run 15:00 [2] 2.0 km (7:30 / km)

Running Club session....only I didn't get very far! I managed to get nearly as far as Margaret's Meadow before I got really asthmatic and started coughing up loads of unhealthy looking stuff. Stopped immediately, and went home to get a doctors appointment.......and the next available appointment......next Thrusday! Shocking!

Cycling 1:05:00 [3]

Went to a friends wedding party last night, and needed to get some fresh air to help me 'recover'. But, didn't want to run because I have to lead a running club session this evening. So, as its a nice summer day, I went for a bike ride. Around town for a bit, then inland to Harcombe, before the fun decent back to the coast. Along the sea front, and around town for a bit more. Then back to the sea front and back along The Byes. Job done!!
7 PM

Steady Run 55:00 [3] 9.0 km (6:07 / km)
shoes: Saucony Excursion

A nice run with the running club from Tipton. Chris has originally planned a route that had far too much road, so I re-planned it to avoid the nasty wimps road running stuff! We went out of the village and upto Metcombe Common, then into West Hill for a bit before descending back down to the river - the whole run had been up hill until that point! Then along the river to the car park. For the second Monday in a row, it was pissing down by the end! Nice run though.

12 PM

Recovery Run 37:00 [3] 7.0 km (5:17 / km)
shoes: Inov8 Mudrock 290

A nice steady run from my parents house. I went out along Knightstone Lane, then to Wiggaton, and down to the river. Along the river for a while before heading back.

Hashing 2:30:00 [4] 27.5 km (5:27 / km) +800m 4:46 / km
shoes: Saucony Excursion

A good A2B hash from Shaldon. The trail started with a loop around the edge of the Zoo before we went almost back to the cars. Then we had an argument with a chap who didn't want us to use a public footpath going through his garden - moron! After running around Shaldon for a bit, we crossed the River Teign to Teignmouth where we hit the beach - for nearly 2k of soft sand running!! Eventually, we turned inland and made our way to the edge of Dawlish for the first drink stop. Then there was a massive 2k climb (with about 200m of climb!) onto Little Halden - which is the area I ran my first ever Light Green course on!! We ran around the woods and common for a while before the second drink stop. Then it was back down towards to Teignmouth where point B was. Only, we had to move point B, back to point A because the ferry from Teignmouth back to Shaldon wasn't working! And why wasn't it working?.......coz the driver (or whatever boats have!), had gone home to watch the FA cup final!! A good run on a nice summer day! :-)

Its a really nice warm summer day, so I couldn't resist a ride down to the beach after work. Went down The Byes along the sea front to Jacobs Ladder then back via Bickwell Valley and Ice House Lane.
