Orienteering race 17:49 [5] *** 3.0 km (5:56 / km) +95m 5:08 / km
spiked:18/18c shoes: Saucony Cohesion

A small Devon training event on Salcombe Hill, above Sidmouth - another nice new map! The orange course was the longest, so I went for a blast around that to 'christen' the map, before doing a bit of coaching. Nice summers evening. :-)

Hashing tempo 1:01:00 [4] 11.5 km (5:18 / km)

An excellent hash from Four Firs on Woodbury Common. Plenty of fast running on a hash which was definitely a trail of two halves......Spockey laid the first bit as a 'one dot and on' trail, and Dobbie laid the second part as a 'three dots and on'. Interesting to experience two different styles of 'laying' on one trail. Sadly, it will be the last trail of the year where we don't need torches....as it was, I ran a large section of the final part of the trail by moon-light - it was a glorious full moon that lit up the whole common.

Steady Run 1:07:00 [3] 12.0 km (5:35 / km)
shoes: Saucony Excursion

A nice run with running club from the Sailing Club. We went straight up Peak Hill and along the coast path for a bit. Then along to Seaview Farm, and through to Piscombe Lane, and out to Stantyway Farm. Then back out to the coast and back along the coast to Sidmouth, via the summit of High Peak for the awesome views. A nice run on a nice evening.

Stretching/Core Stability 10:00 [1]

Stretching - inside the Sailing Club this week as it started to piss down just after we finished!!

Steady Run 58:00 [3] 10.0 km (5:48 / km)
shoes: Inov8 Mudrock 290

A nice easy run with running club from Mutters Moor. It had pissed down for most of the day, but actually turned out to be a reasonable evening for a run. It was only a small group though, coz the rain will have put some off! I decided not to do the Lustleigh 10k earlier in the day because, apparently, the car parking field was a bog, so it was mayhem trying to park.....couldn't be arsed with that!!

Hashing tempo 1:05:00 [4] 12.5 km (5:12 / km)

A good City of Exeter hash from Exminster. Plenty of fast running throughout, and some nasty hills in the first section before we went out onto the Exe flood plain. Good fun on a nice warm summer day.

A good hash from the Warren car park on Woodbury Common, laid by Porkie and Freewheeler. There was plenty of fast running and a long tough climb back to the cars at the end. Good stuff!!

Steady Run 1:00:00 [3] 11.0 km (5:27 / km)
shoes: Saucony Cohesion

A good session with running club on a glorious summer evening. We went up Salcombe Hill on the coast path - awesome views! Then along the coastal path for a bit before turning inland and eventually ending up a the top of Trow Hill. Then we went along the side of the hill, before dropping down Soldiers Hill to The Byes. Back down The Byes to the Sailing Club. I ran with Justin most of the way - we've both just come back from running in the Alps, so we were cruising fairly fast at times, but talked all the way!!

Stretching/Core Stability 10:00 [1]

Stretching in the beach watching the sailors packing up!

Steady Run 1:08:00 [3] 12.0 km (5:40 / km)

A nice running club session from Salcombe Hill. We went out to the coast and along the coastal path to Dunscombe, and then back inland. It was a really nice summer evening, and the views along the coast where awesome......as much as I love places like the Alps, I'm not convinced that anywhere beats East Devon! :-)

A good City of Exeter hash from Joneys Cross - plenty of hills, and some very muddy bits too!! Glorious views on a fairly warm, but not hot (25 degrees), day.

Orienteering race 11:12 [5] ** 3.0 km (3:44 / km) +55m 3:25 / km
spiked:16/16c shoes: Inov8 Mudrock 290

Decided to go to a small Devon summer event and BBQ on a new area just up the road from home. It was basically some fields and a few orchards owned by a club member, but it was perfect for this type of event. Awesome views down the valley to the sea too, and fairly warm (25 degrees) conditions. Enjoyed being orienteering again!

Hashing tempo 58:00 [4] 14.0 km (4:09 / km) +300m 3:45 / km
shoes: Inov8 Mudrock 290

Hashing from White Bridge near Budleigh. It wasn't the best trail with quite a bit of road but, nevertheless, it was enjoyable enough. It was strange to be running at almost sea level again - even though I was running pretty fast, it just didn't feel as though my heart or lungs were doing anything.....and I recovered within seconds of stopping. Definitely something in this altitude running business!!

Steady Run 23:25 [4] 4.0 km (5:51 / km) +300m 4:15 / km
shoes: Inov8 Mudrock 290

Popped out for another quick run! - from Plan Peisey again because its easy to get to and because its sort of on the way to the swimming lake that we spent the rest of the day at. Went out to the chapel at Les Vernettes, which is at 1805 metres. A fairly flat run though as Plan Peisey is only at 1650 metres. But still really nice running though the alpine meadows and areas of forest - awesome finish down a ski-slope too!!

Steady Run 1:12:00 [4] 9.0 km (8:00 / km) +800m 5:32 / km
shoes: Inov8 Mudrock 290

Adam's knee was still playing him up, so he went shopping in Bourg for the morning while I drove up to Plan Peisey for a quick run. I went up to the 2389 metre high Col d' Entreporte. It was a great run using lots of small trails in the forest and then some really nice single track paths above the forest. Great views a really warm too!

Then went back to Bourg to collect Adam. We then went to Val-d'Isere, where we saw a shop amusingly named 'Boobs'! Then we went onto the 4th highest mountain pass in Europe - the Col de I'Iseran. Fantastic, remote place!

Note
(rest day)

Rest day. We went for a drive up the Cormet de Roselend - another Tour De France climb from a few years ago!! The reservoir on the way down looked awesome this year, and I managed to find the road to the bottom of the dam this year too.....which is equally impressive from there too!

Mountian Biking 2:00:00 [3]

We hired mountain bikes on Bourg with the aim of cycling up to the Italian boarder at the Col du Petit St. Bernard. But, sadly, on an early road section some moron managed to pretty much knock Adam off his bike and almost do the same to me. That completely screwed his knee up, but he decided to carry on as far as he could before we returned to base. Got a fair way up, but nowhere near the top - awesome decent back to Bourg though!! Still, at least we could say we'd cycled up part of the Tour De France route from a few years ago!! Later we drove up to the boarder, an on into Italy instead!!

Steady Run 1:59:35 [4] 9.0 km (13:17 / km) +1028m 8:27 / km
shoes: Saucony Excursion

An epic run up Petit Mont Blanc, near Pralognan-la-Vanoise. Although the mountain is 'only' 2680 metres high, and the run is fairly short, it is a really tough one! The starting altitude is only 1652 metres, meaning that the run has an epic 1028 metres of climb.......and all in the first 5k's which took 85 minutes!! Stunning views at the top of all the mountains in the area, including the awesome Mont Blanc in the distance. A great run!

For amusement value, on the way back to Bourg, we just had to stop in the small village called Pussy! Too good to miss!! ;-)

Then we drove up the Col de la Madeleine which was used on this years Tour de France....those blokes are well hard!! All the writing that the spectators put on the road was still there, as well as the line at the summit.

Steady Run 40:00 [2] 5.0 km (8:00 / km)
shoes: Saucony Excursion

We decided to get day lift passes for the Les Arcs resort and spent the day playing on the lifts a running between them. Good fun on a really nice warm day (32 degrees!), and a good way to introduce Adam to running at altitude as there wasn't much running to do, but what we did was at an altitude of at least 2100 metres. We played in the snow at the top of Aigulle Rouge at 3227 metres!!

Travelling to Bourg St. Maurice in the French Alps for a weeks holiday and altitude running with Adam.

A nice steady run with Joe from my house. We went up Bulverton Hill to Keebles Seat, then out to the coast and up High Peak. Then back onto Salcombe Hill and back to my house through the forest. Nice social pace.

Steady Run 2:00:00 [3] 15.0 km (8:00 / km)
shoes: Saucony Excursion

Laying the hash from Joney's Cross on Woodbury Common. It was a really nice warm summer evening, with awesome views of the common and over to the coast. Needless to say, I made it a pretty cunning trail, which twisted around a lot, and even went back to the car park after about 1km! The furtherest the trail went from the cars was 1.2k! hehe!! :-)
7 PM

Hashing 1:00:00 [3] 8.5 km (7:04 / km)
shoes: Saucony Excursion

Running the hash. There was a massive pack (just over 50!) because the Devon Lunatics hash had joined us at Otter for the evening. That meant that there were some non-locals that were well confused and disorientated by all the twisting around!! :-) I ran with either Lilo Lil, Rucka or Joe Woodley for most of the trail, and blatantly ran up some false trails with them to confuse them!! ;-)

A really nice running club session from Salcombe Hill. I led the long run and kept it very coastal, so we could enjoy the awesome views. It was a fairly social run which was good as I'm still feeling a wee bit tired from tour!
