Were the only tent in the Mt Cook campground last night. I have never seen so many campervans in my life. After the super late arrival into Christchuch we drove from Whitecliffs up to Mt Cook about lunchtime and pitched our tent in the rain. Went to bed at about 8.30 as knackered. Woken up about 1am because it was howling a gale and we thought the tent might take off. Needed the loo but bit scared to leave as thought I might get blown over. Few hours sleepless as we weren't sure what to do and then a slow start.
Still crazily windy in the afternoon and as I'm meant to be taking it easy we did the not so adventurous hike along the valley just about getting some views of Mt Cook. Hordes of people, though quite a few didn't go further than the viewpoint and it a. made me feel fast and b. was some comedy value to the clothes some people felt it good to hike in. Bridges a little scary.
James wanted to look at a waterfall so we did some sketchy rockhopping.
